**Position Summary**:
Contributes to the development, coordination, and effective operation of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program for the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group, with a focus on the Brockville site. The position works to increase the quality and safety of patient care by identifying sources of infections and preventing their spread through surveillance, consultation, audits and education to staff, patients and families. Teaches and reinforces infection control best practice policies and procedures to all health care providers. This position may be required to travel to other sites based on operational requirements.

**Duties**:

- Provides expertise to the ROHCG on all issues related to current infection prevention and control. Maintains an up to date knowledge base relevant to infection prevention & control.
- Monitors all patients of the ROHCG for infections, epidemiologically important organisms, environmental risks and/or communicable diseases by review of admission records, microbiology results and consultation with ROHCG staff.
- Identifies, investigates and reports unusual clusters or actual outbreaks through sound knowledge of trends of infections and epidemiologic principles.
- Develops and provides education to staff, students and volunteers in all programs pro-actively and as requested.
- Develops and maintains appropriate IPAC policies and procedures.
- Actively participates on committees as required
- Provides leadership for outbreak management.
- Works in collaboration with the IPAC Coordinator based at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.
- Ensures Occupational Health and Safety standards and other established infection prevention & control best practices are met.
- Prepares quality control and other reports/statistics relevant to the overall infection control monitoring and reporting, including reports for the Minister of the Solicitor General and St. Lawrence Valley Correction Centre. Imports data into external databases as per regulatory/legislative requirements.
- Organizes work in accordance with the annual IPAC goals and objectives.
- Works in a manner that is in compliance with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of the Royal.
- Ensures a work environment that is conducive to The Royal Harassment Free policy.

**Qualifications**:

- Baccalaureate-prepared (BScN) Registered Nurse.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current certification in Infection Control (CIC) or minimum of 80 hours IPAC Canada endorsed Infection Control courses. If not currently CIC certified, will obtain certification in Infection Control within 2 years of entry into the profession and maintains certification
- Experience in Infection Control and Prevention in a health care setting
- Knowledge and understanding of patient care practices, the infectious disease process and the regulatory bodies and legislative requirements that impact the infection control practice.
- Experience in adult education an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, provide direction and work collaboratively with health care providers in the implementation of infection control measures and practices.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and multiple demands.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Solid presentation, organization and decision making skills.
- Sound judgement and problem-solving abilities and initiative.
- Satisfactory Police Records Check for vulnerable sector
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingual (French/English) is preferred.

**Salary Range**:

- 39.07 to 56.00 per hour
