SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.
**Function & Overview**
Reporting to the Manager of Student Affairs, the Student Success Officer (SSO)-College & Skilled Trades (C&ST) has the responsibility to plan, organize and deliver student success services for Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) students consistent with the governance and operating policies of the institute. The position assists the Manager of Student Affairs with ensuring a student-centred focus is implemented across the organization. The SSO-C&ST will support College & Skilled Trades students and ensure resources are available to SNP Learners (including partnership resources). The SSO-C&ST is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
**Duties**
The duties of the Student Success Officer
- College & Skilled Trades include, without limitation:
**Student Success Planning**
- Responding to student enquiries about programs, admission process;
- Planning and implementing student engagement strategies;
- Assisting with recruitment initiatives as needed;
- Conducting and supporting student registration;
- Participating on working group committees within the organization and with partnership organization;
- Assisting with issuing schedules, book lists, and other student administration tasks;
- Facilitating and supporting the student association;
- Managing and referring to the Student Food Bank;
- Support student accommodation process in collaboration with the Accessibility Navigator;
- Invigilating exams when necessary;
- Advising students on degree/program progression;
- Facilitating student academic planning and transitions;
- Participating in academic review and identify potential grads;
- Providing resources and referrals to community services for students, which may be issues of a personal nature;
- Advocating for all students and support those with issues or concerns on an on-going basis;
- Collaborating on the planning of Annual Student Celebration/Convocation;
- Participating in program focus groups and advisory committees to ensure program quality and student success;
- Participating in maintaining an environment conducive to learning and working at Six Nations Polytechnic;
**Partnerships**
- Maintaining partnership relationships through ongoing liaison efforts, including required meetings and committees;
- Maintaining excellent comprehension and understanding of partnership programs, pathways, and procedures;
- Assisting with partnership mapping and strategic planning between SNP and partner institutions;
- Supporting students with ongoing enrollment management while navigating partnership systems;
**Event Planning**
- Planning and coordinating a variety of student academic, social and extracurricular activities;
- Keeping students informed of deadlines and upcoming events;
- Planning and conducting Student Orientation in collaboration with the Manager of Student Affairs;
- Scheduling events in collaboration with institute programs and activities to ensure efficiencies and avoid conflicts and service redundancy;
**General Administration**
- Being familiar with Board policy, Board membership, and operating policy;
- Preparing and submitting written briefs and reports to the Manager of Student Affairs as required;
- Working in collaboration with colleagues to produce institute publications: Calendar, Student Handbook, policies;
- Assisting in the development, revision and implementation of the academic rules and regulations as required;
- Attending meetings of the Board of Directors upon request; and
- Other related duties, as required.
**Qualifications**
**Education & Experience**
- An undergraduate degree in counselling or social sciences and 2 or more years of experience working in a similar field; and/or
- Completion of a college program and 5 years of experience in a related field.
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**
- Demonstrated competencies in strategic thinking, coordination, analysis, policy development, and change management;
- Exceptional communication, organization, and negotiation skills;
- Possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle;
- A general and current knowledge of Hodinǫshǫ:nih history, culture, values, contemporary issues, community priorities, and stakehold
