As a member of the Mill Management Team, the Deputy General Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations to ensure health and safety, sales, production, cost, quality environmental, and human resources objectives are met while ensuring mill compliance with Corporate Principles and Guidelines and applicable legislation.

**Responsibility**
- General Management
- Sponsor key projects or initiatives to provide clear objectives and appropriate resource engagement to ensure deliverables
- As a member of the Mill Management Team ensures compliance with all health and safety regulations and Corporate Policies and procedures.
- Provides support to the development and implementation strategic and operational plans for the mill; prepare and implement and maintain a day to day operating plan which ensures production, quality, and cost objectives are met.
- Controls cash costs to meet the operating budget and develop, implement and maintain a cost reduction program to generate cash at the lowest point in the market.
- Ensuring cash contributions from customers and products are monitored and appropriate action is taken to meet corporate financial targets in conjunction with the Sales and Marketing Team.
- Ensures assets are effectively maintained to maximize their life and that cleanliness standards are followed, while ensuring production and maintenance systems are maintained and improved.
- Maximizes human resources effectiveness by ensuring sound union / management / employee relations by developing and implementing a participative approach to managing.
- Advises and / or recommends changes / opportunities outside of direct accountability that will contribute to optimizing the short and long term objectives of the pulp group.
- Performance Management
- Provides an effective and consistent process to assist managers in dealing with employee performance and attendance issue.
- Processes and Policies
- As a member of Mill Management Team will ensure compliance with quality, environmental and safety systems QMS (ISO 9001), EMS (ISO 14001) and OHSAS (18001).

**Education / Technical / Experience requirement**
- The position requires an engineering degree and twelve to fifteen years of industry experience resulting in an in-depth knowledge of pulp process, environmental and quality requirements.
- The incumbent must have demonstrated management and leadership skill and ability to effectively deal with government affairs and to motivate employees to achieve established objectives.
- Solid analytical and quantitative abilities, problem solving and decision making skills. Capabilities with the skill to draw appropriate conclusions and presentations.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to manage complexity; able to balance the big picture with the details.
- Excellent leadership and team building skills. Able to recruit, develop and retain high calibre people.
- Ability to organize and plan, delegate authority, leads and motivates people, and maintains effective control.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences and present financial information in an audience-appropriate manner.
- Demonstrated ability to act with high standards and integrity at all times.
- Possesses situational awareness of surroundings with the ability to adapt to new and changing environments, who can relate well at all levels.
- A high sense of urgency with regards to moving projects forward and making operational improvements; action and goal oriented.
