**ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE**
This role reports to the Instructional Associate of the Horticulture Degree Program
**SUMMARY**
No incumbent working with this job description will in any one shift, do all of these duties. This job description is to be used for all student assistants in this area, and is set up this way to ensure the incumbent gets a wide range of experience in the horticulture industry.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Performs record-keeping functions, including inventory checks, material identification, and data tabulation
- Assists in the maintenance of laboratory facilities, specimens, cultures, and equipment
- Helps organize and maintain the lab storage area
- Performs basic lab and rooftop garden maintenance tasks
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Basic working knowledge of the field lab facility and activities
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Basic computer operation
- Ability to travel between campuses
- Physical fitness sufficient for moderate manual labour (lifting, climbing, disassembly of machines)
**Salary Information**
Student Assistants are paid as per the following:
- Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) - BC Minimum Wage
- One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) - BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
- With a post-secondary diploma or degree - BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
