We are hiring for a temporary (November - January, with the possibility of extension) part-time Food Rescue Driver for driving routes on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The Driver role is dynamic and community-facing and is central to all of our work at Food Stash. Reporting to the Operations & Food Recovery Manager, the Food Rescue Driver is responsible for picking up rescued food from food donors, delivering food to our community partners around the Vancouver area, and bringing food back to the Food Stash warehouse for our programs. Typical days start between 7:30-8am and finish between 12-2pm, and include picking up food from 4-7 food donors and delivering it to 4-6 community partners.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- Experienced and comfortable driving 3 ton commercial trucks and cargo vans (a special driver’s license is not necessary and we will provide training as necessary)
- Self-motivated, sound judgment, and excellent interpersonal skills
- Organized and punctual
- Ability to collaborate with others and also work independently
- Adaptable and able to comfortably navigate ambiguity
- Clean driving record and criminal record check
- Desired Additional Experience & Skills_
- Experience working with vulnerable populations
- Non-profit and/or charity sector experience
- Demonstrated work experience in a customer service role
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
Under the guidance of the Operations & Food Recovery Manager, the Food Rescue Driver performs all activities related to the pick-up and delivery of rescued food, and is specifically responsible for the following duties:
- Primary Duties_
- Travel to pick-up and delivery locations including but not limited to grocery stores, local non-profits, community fridges, and Food Stash warehouse
- Communicate with partners and members of the public in a kind and empathetic manner, aligned with the values of Food Stash Foundation
- Represent Food Stash in the community in a professional manner
- Operate the Food Stash vehicle in a responsible manner and keep it clean and tidy after each shift
- Communicate with Operations & Food Recovery Manager to ensure routes are completed smoothly and issues are addressed as needed
- Assist and support the Operations Manager with warehouse standards and other operational work as required
**JOB DETAILS**
- Type: Temporary (November - January, with the possibility of extension), Part-time
- Schedule: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Hours: 20-25 hours per week with the possibility of extra hours as required to support driving coverage needs and organizational growth
- Availability to attend occasional team meetings, trainings, or workshops that would be paid but may be outside of driving hours
- Location: Work days start & finish at Food Stash warehouse
- Expected start date: As soon as possible
- Expected end date: January 23, 2025 with the possibility of extension
**COMPENSATION & BENEFITS**
- Food Stash is a Living Wage Employer as defined by Living Wage for Families BC. All wages are at or above the stated Living Wage for Metro Vancouver as defined here. The hourly wage for this position is currently $26 (paid semi-monthly).
- Vacation entitlement is equivalent to 2 weeks per year: 4% will be accrued on each pay cheque
- Additional paid time off includes the day off for your birthday and quarterly wellness days
- Other monetary perks: $10 per month phone allowance (taxable); up to $120 towards the purchase of work boots; $150 annual bonus for safe driving
- If the position extends beyond 3 months, comprehensive extended health benefits would be available
