**With your high attention to detail, critical thinking abilities, and strong analytical skills, you will play a key role within the Corporate Services team In this Financial Analyst role, you will have the opportunity to lead a broad range of accounting activities in addition to providing financial expertise through financial accounting and analysis.**

**You will perform a wide range of accounting work from assisting in budget preparation, year-end audit, monthly financial statement reporting and working with individuals in various areas of the general ledger operation.**

**General Accounting Duties**
- Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding and operational abilities on the Diamond Municipal Financial Software and Management Reporting System.
- Monitor and manage the Tangible Capital Assets system, ensuring both Diamond Municipal Software and Citywide software reconciles.
- Ensure that all general ledger accounts are balanced as required either through preparing the reconciliations or reviewing the reconciliations of each subledger.
- Prepare monthly GST submission.
- Back up for monthly bank reconciliation.
- Assist with debentures, financing and local improvements as required.

**Financial Reporting**
- Prepare monthly financial reports for managers.
- Review monthly financial statements and identify significant variances for managers to report on.
- Prepare financial analysis of various expenditure areas on a regular basis to identify trends and streamline operations.
- Assist with the preparation of year end audit working paper file and work with auditors during the audit as required. This includes preparing financial reporting requirements for Municipal Affairs on a regular basis.
- Manage, coordinate, and prepare grant submissions, spreadsheets to track grants, files and final expenditure submissions.

**Budgeting**
- Assist with the preparation of the annual budget for both operating and capital budgets with the use of Questica Budget software.
- Assist with Payroll and Benefit budgeting and staff allocation changes.

***General Duties**
- Assist with the managing or operation of any Corporate Services function as directed by the Finance Manager. This could include Council level functions or municipal functions such as elections or open house presentations.
- Assist with Payroll and Benefits.

**Research / Technical**
- Review financial internal controls both within finance and the organization and collaborate with the Finance Manager to develop recommendations for improvement.
- Continually upgrade knowledge of the Diamond Software system to continue to implement best practices for the system.
- Develop, implement, and manage the security system within the Diamond Financial System.
- Assist with financial policy and bylaw development as required.
- Undertake Cost Benefit Analysis for a variety of projects.
- Support best practices in financial reporting by collaborating with departments and other Corporate Services staff.
- Assist in other projects as a financial resource.

***Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Effective and strong accounting and financial skill; including financial analysis as well as report preparation.
- Expert-level analytical and financial modelling skills.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet key deliverables within a short time.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, the MGA and any other applicable legislation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Presentation skills with the ability to influence and persuade.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative and identify areas that require investigation.
- Strong Excel / financial modelling skills and hands on experience with Diamond Financial Software would be considered an asset

**Required Education and Experience**:

- University Degree in Accounting, Business or related field.
- CPA Accounting designation, or in the process of obtaining CPA designation.
- Minimum five to seven (5 to 7) years relevant financial accounting experience is required, preferably in a municipal setting.
