What can I expect to do in this role? - Monitor contractors' delivery of construction and maintenance operations while ensuring necessary work records are maintained. - Ensure compliance with contract requirements, review of extra work, contract drawings and documents, and claims. - Patrol and report on road conditions, hazards and/or deficiencies. - Provide direction to contractors and operators, making sure the required work records are maintained. - Liaise with contractors, property owners, internal staff, and the general public to address issues and complaints. **Please note**: - You may be required to work rotating shifts on a 24 hour/7 days a week basis, including nights, weekends and statutory holidays. - This position may require extensive travel, out of town, and overnight work. Travel throughout the region to places not accessible by public transit, including remote locations, will occur. How do I qualify? Mandatory **Technical Expertise**: - Proven experience and knowledge of constructions and/or maintenance practices including inspection, material sampling, testing, and road patrolling duties. - Knowledge of highway, construction standards and specifications, and maintenance. - Ability to monitor contractor's operations, assess contractors' and consultants' work for compliance. - Ability to interpret contract drawings and documents. **Essential Skills**: - Well-developed oral and interpersonal skills to deal with contractors, colleagues, and the general public. - Proven analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills to assist with the assessment of construction related issues. - Good mathematical skills to conduct payment calculations and assessments, and conduct field surveys. - Good written skills to maintain accurate records, such as inspector diaries. - Well developed organizational and planning skills to carry out contract related activities. - Good working knowledge of computers to perform clerical and administrative work such as correspondence, instruction notices, payment calculations, payment reports, contract payment assessment, and applicable reports and forms.
