The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is responsible for the stewardship of the Port of Vancouver, Canada’s largest and most diversified port. The Manager, Development Codes & Standards will be responsible for:

- Plan, organize, participate in, supervise and evaluate the work of the development codes and standards function of the Engineering & Asset Management department
- Review detailed design drawings for compliance with the NBCC and the NFCC, and make recommendations to VFPA on issuance of building permits
- Conduct site inspections during project construction to ensure that development is proceeding in accordance with approved building permit drawings
- Review project wrap-up documentation and make recommendations to VFPA on issuance of occupancy permits
- Liaise with the PER department to monitor and confirm building and occupancy permits are in place to meet applicable conditions in the project permit
- Make decisions or recommendations on the issuance of building and occupancy permits based on recommendations from VFPA's professional building code consultant
- Carry out site inspections during project construction, together with VFPA's building code consultant as appropriate, to ensure project development is proceeding in accordance with approved building permit and detailed design drawings
- Implement a program of continuous improvement by developing and updating related procedures, guidelines, directives and policies to ensure that new developments meet or exceed current best practices, provide for a high level of safety, consider climate resiliency needs and advance VFPA's vision to be the world's most sustainable port
- Ensure VFPA's interests are considered in the updates of the development codes and standards applicable to projects at the Port of Vancouver by serving on code and standards committees and providing input to code and standards update processes led by their governing organizations

Leadership and Management
- Participate in the development of departmental plans and be responsible for the development and implementation of activities and programs designed to meet the intention of specific strategic priorities
- Participate as a member of various management and inter-departmental teams in the planning, implementation and management of business initiatives
- Promote the VFPA's health and safety program by demonstrating health and safety leadership through actions, participation in health and safety initiatives and regular safety conversations with employees
- Plan, implement and review departmental staffing requirements for areas of responsibility, including the determination of clear position descriptions, accountabilities and reporting arrangements to optimize service delivery to all stakeholders
- Manage subordinates and consultants, ensuring that team and individuals are motivated, have defined position descriptions and reporting arrangements, their performance goals are clear and actively managed and development needs are defined and addressed
- Represent VFPA in negotiations, at conferences and conventions, and in the media as required, ensuring clear communication of the business strategy and key messages, and the presentation of a positive and professional image of the business
- Liaise with Human Resources to ensure the effective selection, training and performance management of staff
