What You’ll Do:
As a Control Room Operator, you will be part of the team in Northland’s Renewable Energy Centre (REC) that is responsible for the 24/7, 365 monitoring and control of Northland’s North American renewable operating facilities. You will monitor and remotely control assets, interface with system operators on behalf of generating facilities, and perform troubleshooting and assistance for planned and emergency events under the direction of the Renewable Energy Centre Manager.
This position runs on a rotating 24/7, 365 days a year shift schedule and some travel may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Real time monitoring and control of wind and solar generating facilities including circuit breakers, transformers, and transmission lines.
- Coordinate with on-site facility operators and system operators to ensure outages, isolation, and work protection is provided for planned and emergency work.
- Monitor weather and system conditions to ensure assets are performing as expected, in real-time.
- Dispatch generating facilities in accordance with dispatch instructions provided by system operator.
- Log, document, and record system operations, events, communications, and alarms.
- Support system troubleshooting including preparing and supporting the development of event reports and root cause analysis.
- Prepare and support routine reports related to facility availability and other key performance indicators.
- Comply with applicable Market Rules, transmitter requirements, and reliability standards.
- Utilize situational awareness to capture revenue opportunities where possible.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives with respect to the processes, procedures, and tools at the Renewable Energy Center.
- Advise management of significant events while complying with polices, practices, and procedures.
- Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience
- Practical, working knowledge of renewable energy technologies (wind, solar, energy storage) and power systems.
- Post-secondary education in one of the following disciplines is considered an asset: Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma; or Instrumentation and Control Technician diploma.
- Familiarity with utility safety regulations and practices.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word.
