The Halifax Port Authority (“HPA”) is an independently governed federal organization that facilitates the movement of goods and passengers through the Port of Halifax (“the Port”). The Port of Halifax is a regional economic engine, generating more than $3.6 billion in total economic output in 2020, $2.3 billion of which is directly attributed to the Port. This level of activity generated direct and spinoff impacts of $1.8 billion in GDP, $1.1 billion in labour income and over 18,775 jobs. The world’s largest shipping lines call on the Port of Halifax, connecting the port to more than 150 countries. Offering a natural, deep harbour and world-class infrastructure, the Port can accommodate large volumes of containerized cargo, bulk cargo and project cargo of any size. The beautiful Halifax Seaport is also a premier destination, attracting more than 1.2 million visitors each year. Collaborating and working with strong partners and stakeholders, the Port community continues to deliver excellent service.
**Vice President, Strategy & Transformation**
The Port is seeking a Vice President, Strategy & Transformation (the VP), who will be responsible for leading the HPA’s strategy development and transformational change management. Given the purpose, business model and organizational size of the Halifax Port Authority and given the enterprise-wide importance of both strategic planning and the transformation agenda, the Vice President, Strategy and Transformation reports directly to the President & CEO. The VP will spearhead the development of recommendations and initiatives to deliver on the Port’s strategic objectives and optimize the flow of goods for international trade through the Halifax Gateway. The VP will collaborate with IT to ensure the Port’s information systems enable rich analyses and will work with supply chain stakeholders to maximize the Port’s access to relevant data for use in determining the HPA’s long-term direction and planning. And the new VP will oversee Government and Stakeholder Relations, Sustainability, Internal Communications and External Communications, all of which are growing in their importance and impact to the Port and its community.
Continued expansion of the Port’s infrastructure will position the Port to attract additional gateway container traffic; in that regard, continuing to build upon the efforts to attract funding from the Government of Canada’s Trade and Transportation Corridors Initiative will be a key priority of the Port and the VP will play a significant role in supporting and implementing related projects and initiatives, including environmental sustainability initiatives - a key value and goal of the Port of Halifax.
