**JOB DESCRIPTION**:
Provide friendly and attentive customer service by taking orders, preparing, and serving menu items in accordance with customer preferences, the café’s established recipes, and all applicable health and safety standards.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Welcoming and seating customers
- Informing patrons about menu items, specials, events, and products and services
- Taking orders and accurately entering them into the ordering system
- Operating the cash register and accurately handling cash or cashless transactions and providing payment receipts
- Preparing hot and cold beverages for patrons by operating a warming oven, panini press, waffle maker, espresso coffee machine, kettle, ice machine and blenders
- Prepare and plate food items for customers according following hygiene standards
- Assessing the condition of the facilities and the equipment and immediately reporting any issues, malfunction, or irregularities to management/ownership
- Ensuring the food and other ingredients are fresh and ensure safe food handling standards are always met
- Maintain a hygienic environment by cleaning surfaces and equipment regularly
- Clearing plates and cutlery from tables to prepare for incoming customers
- Washing dishes and sweeping the floor
- Tracking inventory levels to ensure the café has an adequate supply
- Ensure bathroom supplies are always re-stocked and clean the bathrooms as per determined schedule
- Opening or closing the establishment
- Responding to customer questions, feedback, or complaints in a courteous and professional manner
- Occasional help in the bakery may be required for general tasks, such as sandwich prep, ingredient prep, etc.
- Occasional help as vendor on Farmer’s Markets may be required
- Other duties as needed

**REQUIREMENTS**:

- Valid Nova Scotia Safe Food Handling Certificate
- Must have own transportation
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of operating an espresso machine and making espresso-based beverages is an asset

**WORK SCHEDULE**:

- Position Type: Full-time (Part-time would be considered, with emphasis on work in the weekends; with slight modification of compensation & perks - to be negotiated)
- Café Operating Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (hours may be extended in the high season)Seasonal Variations: Work hours may vary during the off-season based on business needs

General Presentation Standards: Staff are expected to maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance at all times while on duty. This includes:

- Wearing clothing that is visually appealing and appropriate for a food service environment.
- Maintaining well-groomed hair and clean, trimmed nails.
- Long or painted nails are not permitted, as they pose a hygiene and food safety risk.

Required Dress Code: To ensure consistency and professionalism, all team members must adhere to the following clothing standards:
Tops:

- White, tailored button-down shirts with a collar.
- Long or short sleeves are acceptable; sleeveless shirts are not permitted.

Bottoms:

- Pants: Khakis, chinos, classic jeans, or light-colored trousers.
- Skirts: Knee-length skirts only (not shorter).
- The following are not permitted: leggings, sweatpants, athletic wear, or shorts

Additional Guidelines:

- No visible slogans, logos, or political statements on any clothing.
- Aprons will be provided by the company and must be worn as part of the uniform.
- Shoes must be closed-toe, clean, and in good condition. Acceptable styles include sneakers, Vans, or similar casual footwear. Crocs and any shoes with holes, rips, or visible dirt are not allowed.

**COMPENSATION**:

- Starting Wage: $18/hour (Subject to review following a 3-months probationary period. Wage adjustments may be made based on demonstrated work ethic, attitude, flexibility, and initiative.)
