**Summary**
Reporting to Quality Manager, the Quality Technician will be responsible to perform and monitor all QC testing on processes and products. They are responsible for the overall quality of the beer from raw ingredients to packaged product, ensuring accurate and timely checks are performed.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Sample and test raw materials, in-process and final product
- Perform necessary quality control testing (e.g., daily beer/wort/yeast checks, measurements on packaging materials, sensory testing, etc.)
- Perform necessary microbiological testing, recording, and reporting, including daily sample collection, cell culture, filter plating, PCR
- Routine analytical chemistry testing, including alcohol, colour, bitterness, pH analysis
- Identify problem areas and contribute to root cause analysis
- Ensure that final products meet company specifications and customer expectations
- Investigate potential sources of non-conformance and identify ways to improve quality and/or food safety
- Complete routine checks, organizing equipment calibration, maintaining records, and stocking lab supplies. Ensure that lab areas are clean and organized
- Participate in ongoing product and process improvement efforts
- Follow all health & safety requirements
- Comply with all company policies
- Other duties as required
**Internal and External Relationships**:In this role, the incumbent will work with all operations departments in the Brewery. They will interact closely with Brewing and Packaging to ensure product meets specific requirements.
**Decision Making**:The Quality Technician is responsible to make recommendations surrounding quality non-compliances. They, in consultation with the Senior Quality Technicians and the Quality Manager, will investigate any issues and provide recommendations and solutions.
**Knowledge & Experience**
- Degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, Food Sciences or related field
- Experience in QC/QA in the beverage industry a plus; Production Food laboratory experience in QC/QA or R&D desired
- Knowledge of the Brewing process and sensory concepts considered a strong asset
- Experience with standard microbiological techniques (plating, microscopy, etc.)
- Familiar with GLP, GMP, and Food Safety procedures
- Experienced with Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills and good team player
- Flexibility in schedule, including weekend work
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
**Other Technical Skills**:The incumbent of this role must have microbiological skills. They must work in a lab environment with scientific equipment. They must understand equipment calibration and basic technical operation of lab tools.
**WORKING CONDITIONS and ENVIRONMENT**
- Physical and Sensory demands are representative of an employee working in a fast-paced production plant. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for long periods of time. Some lifting may be required on an infrequent basis.
- The incumbent in this role will work in the production plant where regular hazards exist. They must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) daily. They must be able to lift kegs, up to 130 lbs., and cases of beer, up to 50 lbs.
**Salary**: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
