**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Safety**
- Ensure team members understand and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures.
- Utilize best practices in safety leadership: Training, Observation, Correction and Positive Reinforcement
- Identify safety and ergonomics concerns, and ensure they are addressed properly.
- Conduct thorough investigations of all incidents including near misses with a focus on prevention.
- Follow through with CA as required
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and orderliness.
- Facilitate Shift Safety meetings as required
- Pursue safety improvement opportunities and projects

**Quality/Food Safety**
- Ensure employees are trained and follow the policies and procedures of plant HACCP/GMP program. Do what’s right.
- Ensure products meet Company and government standards for all products
- Lead all Food Safety Protocol requirements
- Have an active role on the HACCP team.
- Ensure manufactured product meets specifications including compliance to Bills of Material
- Ensure product quality inspections are carried out effectively on the shift and are documented correctly
- Ensure process parameters are maintained within prescribed limits and documentation is filled out correctly

**Productivity and Cost Management**
- Ensure all plant efficiency (operating, material, and runtime) goals are met on all lines. Lead with a sense of urgency.
- Ensure clear communication about problems and follow-up requirements takes place between all parties (amongst the lines, shifts, with Maintenance, Quality, Logistics, Management, etc.)
- Work with Logistics to plan and schedule production to optimize customer service. Be externally focused.
- Ensure production line staffing levels meet budget, and are recorded accurately. Explain over/understaffing situations to Manager.
- Understand and comply with staffing levels for capacity demand
- Analyze variances and work with Manager and Finance to explain the variances.
- Participate in the process of product costing on new and existing products as required.
- Pursue productivity improvement and cost reduction opportunities and projects using the Six Sigma philosophy. Continuously improve.

**Teamwork**
- Accomplish results through managing and developing highly involved and motivated team members. Have a bias for action.
- Communicate openly within the work team, between shifts, to manager, and to other departments.
- Facilitate team meetings as required.
- Train and/or coach team members for improved safety, quality, productivity, or teamwork performance.
- Work with Manager and HR to define formal coaching/disciplinary needs of unionized staff as required.
- Document and maintain accurate records with respect to employee performance, product quality, daily reconciliation, health and safety, and payroll. Adhere to Company standards
- Develop, lead and coach employees through effective training and recognition
- Effective implementation and maintenance of the Company’s safety program evidenced by an exemplary safety record and due diligence documentation.
- Active involvement and leadership in Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement to achieve productivity improvements and waste reduction
- Achieve budget and plans to utilize equipment, supplies, and personnel to maximize productivity

**PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA**
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to communicate (verbal and written) and work efficiently with all departments (Finance, Sales, Marketing, Logistics & Quality Assurance)
- Proven leadership ability
- Experience in a unionized facility is preferred.
- 5 - 10 progressive supervisory experience, preferably in a Food Manufacturing facility
- Strong commitment to completing tasks on a timely basis in a fast-paced environment
- Strong computer skills including Word and Excel
- Willing to work shifts and weekends
- Preference is given to University Degree in Business, Engineering or College Diploma in a similar field. Relevant supervisory or manufacturing experience will also be considered.
- Knowledge of HACCP principles would be preferable
