**The Position**:
The Behaviour Technician is responsible for providing support to children with a wide variety of developmental disabilities and diagnoses, their families, and healthcare teams. The Behaviour Technician works under the clinical supervision of a Behaviour Analyst in conjunction within a multi-disciplinary Psychopharmacology team to assess interfering behaviour and formulate recommendations to support client and families needs and build skill. The Behaviour Technician will assist families, staff, and communities to understand behaviour and develop skills to provide mediator coaching toward full participation in therapeutic programs, extracurricular activities, and daily life at home.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Build strong rapport with clients and families to understand their values and goals of behaviour treatment
- Collaborates within a multi - disciplinary Psychopharmacology team to formulate cohesive recommendations
- Collaborates with the Behaviour Analyst to ensure all components of the behavioural service focus on safety, client and family dignity, and rapport building
- Assists Behaviour Analyst in assessment of interfering behaviour including conducting interviews, collecting data, and discussing behaviour within an interdisciplinary team
- Partners with families to provide mediator model coaching and education to implement strategies and assist follow-through on clinic recommendations
- Recognizes limitations of mediator model consultation and demonstrates understanding of goals are achievable within these contexts, and when recommendations to other services may be required
- Receives and seeks ongoing clinical supervision from the Behaviour Analyst to ensure treatment fidelity and to amend treatment plans and goals as necessary
- Responsive to the changing needs of clients and families and demonstrates flexibility to adapt treatment goals and approach as necessary in collaboration with the Behaviour Analyst
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives, supports the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment and advances a culture of client/patient safety through work and daily practices Provide behaviour consultation to departments throughout the hospital, working in collaboration with the healthcare team
- Liaison with families, healthcare teams, and community agencies as necessary in a professional fashion
- Community capacity building through formal and informal means such as development and provision of workshops for families, staff and students, providing education, modeling, and supporting others to gain the understanding of behaviour and successful support approaches.
- Support children and families within group settings
- Take an active role in research initiatives toward better support for children and their families
- Participate in professional development opportunities including attending and presenting at conferences, and/or community programs
**Requirements**:
- College diploma or undergraduate degree in a field related to behavioural science, psychology, child and youth work, or social services.
- Registered Behaviour Technician certification considered an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis principles and a minimum of two years’ experience implementing them
- Experience providing services to children and youth with varying abilities who engage in severe interfering behaviours including aggression, self-injury, property destruction, etc.
- Demonstrated experience providing parent training and coaching
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and communicate effectively with clients, families, Behaviour Analyst, and members of the interprofessional team
- Strong initiative skills, demonstrated through the ability to work independently, make quick decisions, resolve conflict, and adapt to changing work environments
