The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Pension and Benefits Lead to join our Compensation and Benefits team. The Pension and Benefits Lead will report to the Manager, Compensation and Benefits and oversee the assessment and delivery of group benefits and retirement plans while providing functional guidance and direction to internal teams and external stakeholders. This role manages annual governance processes, implementation of plan changes/projects and resolution of complex issues/inquiries in a multi-union environment.

What You Will Do:
- Analyze and lead the implementation of updates from collective bargaining, legislative changes, and other business requirements.
- Ensure plan design, provisions, documentation, and communications are accurate and aligned with collective agreements and terms and conditions.
- Validate system set up is accurate and efficient, aligned with best practice and meets audit, billing and reporting requirements.
- Document transition and change management items and prepare communications.
- Identify gaps in current processes, data integrity and system set up and take the lead in implementing improvements.
- Plan Governance
- Oversee annual plan reporting, renewals, communications, and other processes as per plan rules and requirements.
- Review and analyze existing benefit and pension processes and system design for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with legislation.
- Design and implement process and system improvements and create documentation for use by operational teams.
- Assess reporting needs and work with vendors/partners to design and test report output that will meet current and future requirements.
- Complex Inquires/Data Requests
- Analyze and support complex benefits and pension escalations and inquiries.
- Respond to requests for compensation, pension and benefit data, cost estimates, and other information as required.

What You Bring:
- Education: post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
- Preferred Professional Designation: Certified Employee Specialist (CEBS) and/or Retirement Plans Associate (RPA). CPHR designation is an asset.
- Experience: 7+ years in benefit and pension plan management.
- Preferred experience:
- Defined benefit pension plans, registered pension plans, and Group RRSP.
- Benefit and pension plan rules and legislation in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
- Multi-union environments and implementation of collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience in HRIS platforms such as Workday and reporting.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Knowledge and expertise in group benefits and pension legislation and requirements, applicable privacy legislation, and employment standards.
- Ability to translate requirements into operational processes.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to review and identify system and process gaps and identify solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Customer service orientation combined with the ability to communicate complex requirements in a way that is easily understood by multiple audiences.
- Must be able to provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, or be willing to obtain one.
