**We are looking for an outgoing person who is passionate about science communication to join our "Science in the Park" team.** Science in the Park is a free program that is offered by Nanaimo Science. This long-running summertime program travels to various locations in the Nanaimo area, sharing hands-on science activities for children and families tied to natural environment; e.g. trees and plants in a forest; intertidal zones at a beach; earth science and geography on an isthmus **Science in the Park primarily operates from Wednesday to Sundays**(Mondays and Tuesdays off), with occasional shifts in work weeks. Most work will be held during the day time, with occasional evening programs for special events (Sunset Cinema public events, possible Astronomy-themed Science in the Park program in the evening). Training is provided. Working together with a team of colleagues and supervision provided by Nanaimo Science's Executive Director will help ensure a smooth introduction and supports throughout your work term. A Class 5 Drivers License (N or full) and a criminal record check for vulnerable sectors are required for this position. Some heavy lifting may also be required (tent set up, tables and equipment). As part of our commitment to equity and inclusion in the environmental sector, we aim to provide opportunities that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and support youth who have historically faced barriers to employment in nature-related fields. **Duties**: - Delivering programs to children and their families, as well as the general public in parks, beaches and other greenspaces during the summer months as our “Science in the Park” initiative. - Helping to develop programs in these areas, focused on nature (animal and plant biology, earth sciences, geography/GIS, conservation, ecology, environmental science, etc.) - Ensuring that supplies required for programs are prepared and kept in good working condition. - Set up and take down at sites, which will include some heavy lifting (up to 40 pounds) and ensuring that all work is done safely. - Working outdoors in a variety of locations, environments and in all weather except where dangerous.. - Working collaboratively with colleagues under the direction of the Executive Director. - Additional duties within the Nanaimo Science umbrella of programs and activities. **Position starts on June 18 2025.
