As a **Wildlife Technician **you will partner with key business stakeholders and external contractors to develop and deliver a wildlife management program that aligns with operational, safety, environmental, and profitability objectives of Civeo to minimize wildlife-human interactions. Main duties include close liaison with Provincial and Federal Regulators (AB Fish and Wildlife, Department of Fisheries and Oceans), responding to problem wildlife incidences, providing annual bear training to field personnel, and regulatory permitting and compliance. **This position is based out of the Fort McMurray, AB area and is a 15 days on and 13 days off OR a 20 days on and 10 days off rotation.
**Responsibilities**
- This key support position enables the research and management initiatives required to identify potential impacts of development activities on wildlife and wildlife habitat by providing logistic, field, administrative, and analytical support to regional research and management initiatives.
- Assist the Manager with development of an annual wildlife monitoring and prevention strategy for problem wildlife that meets Provincial regulatory requirement.
- Ensuring compliance with Fish and Wildlife Protocol 15 as it relates to Black Bear and human interactions.
- Subject matter expert on the Wildlife Act and Regulations in the jurisdictions in which Civeo has Lodge facilities.
- Assist in implementation of the environment program, inspections and investigations as needed.
- Complete weekly waste and wildlife inspection checklists for lodges as required.
- In conjunction with Supply Chain and Manager, negotiate and manage contracts and service level agreements for third party wildlife contractors.
- Ensure that consultants conducting hazing of problem wildlife is done in accordance with Fish and Wildlife standards and guidelines.
- Conduct lodge site inspections to determine areas of attraction for wildlife and propose mitigation to reduce attractants and ensure that proposed mitigation complies with other environmental and land authorizations.
- Work collaboratively with key business teams, ensure objectives and outcomes align with stakeholder and operational expectations.
- Collaborate with Operational Teams in development and implementation of all problem wildlife policies.
- The ability to interact positively with wildlife users and Hunters and Trappers’ Organizations and the ability to liaise between scientist and user groups is also required to be successful in the position.
- Implement and project manage initiatives and activities related to wildlife deterrence improvements.
- Assist Manager in development and review of Safe Work Instruction (SWI) for lodge staff and guests as it relates to bear-human interactions.
- Research and evaluate new wildlife deterrence methods related to species prone to becoming problem wildlife.
- Assist in provision of other related environmental and safety training in concert with Safety and Environment.
- Partner with HSE to develop and implement wildlife safety training, corrective and preventive measures, incident investigations, and follow up reporting.
- Prepare various annual, quarterly, monthly reports for HSE, regulatory organizations, external clients, and Senior Management.
- The incumbent must also have experience with outdoor activities, navigation and survival kills including the proven ability to work under harsh field conditions.
- The incumbent must have excellent English written and oral communication skills for conveying information about wildlife management and the results of wildlife studies to a wide range of audiences.

**Required Qualifications**
- Wildlife Technician or Biologist (graduation from a recognized University or Polytechnique institute)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience
- 2 years of black bear hazing experience is an asset.
- Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) - Unrestricted
- Standard Level C First Aid/CPR
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Demonstrated experience in using superior collaboration skills and abilities.
- Superior project management and leadership skills
- Excellent problem solving, strategic thinking, analytical and planning skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to pass Pre-Access drug and alcohol testing.
- Must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License, with a 5-year driving record satisfactory to Civeo’s Safe Vehicle Use policy.
