**Position Overview** **POSITION OVERVIEW** The Youth Diversion Coordinator is part of a multi-disciplinary team at BGC Durham, which provides services to youth ages 12-18. The position of the Youth Diversion Coordinator which involves meeting with young persons between 12 and 18 years of age alleged to have committed an offence(s), and providing community-based, post-charge sanctions and outreach support. **WORK INVOLVED** - **Youth Diversion/Youth Justice Committee Coordinator**_ - Meet with young persons between the ages of 12 and 18 and determine appropriate sanctions. - Encourage young persons to make reparations for their offence(s) - Record and maintain a database and statistical reports in accordance with Ministry requirements and standards. - Provide ongoing support to clients. - Maintain updated and accurate case notes and statistical data. - Participate in the planning and facilitation of the youth programs. - Develop and facilitate programs to achieve program goals. - **Trusteed Youth Program**_ - Meet with the Client and the Ontario Works Caseworker (herein called Caseworker), at a mutually agreed upon time and mutually convenient safe space. - Meet at least every six months to review the financial eligibility of the Client and to sign any required documentation; and at any subsequent meeting where Caseworker deems financial eligibility may be at risk. - Provide space at designated cheque pick up locations and arrange dates for Caseworker and Trustee to be available to meet together with Client to address any issues, update Client information and promote wrap around service delivery model. - Exchange and consistently update information with the Caseworker regarding any circumstances of the Client that may affect eligibility for financial assistance - including address, phone number, if funds are not picked up or received by Client and Client's declared preferred method of contact. - Notify Client if Caseworker advises that Client's funds are on hold and ensure Client understands what is required and how to proceed to reinstate benefits. - Ensure Client has access to other services in the community and/or as provided by the agency as needed. - Administer the financial assistance of the Client to ensure that their ongoing maintenance needs are met. - Proactively assist with money management. - Execute and deliver to the Region, "Appointment of Trustee" form for each Client for whom you will trustee. - File an annual report with the Commissioner accounting for all receipt and disbursements of financial assistance received on behalf of the Client. - Maintain the physical security of all data, information, reports, materials or other documents relating to your role as trustee and notify the Youth Justice Service Director immediately in the event of a breach. - **Youth Justice Committee (YJC) Volunteer Coordinator**_ - Develop and deliver training for YJC volunteers. - Create a volunteer schedule for YJC meetings. - Maintain regular contact with volunteers and ensure they understand program expectations etc. - Observe and provide feedback to volunteers on an annual basis. - Find and arrange education and training opportunities for YJC volunteers to build their knowledge, skills and capacity - **General Responsibilities**:_ - Assist with general housekeeping duties of the Club in order to maintain a clean, welcoming environment. - Assume responsibility for awareness of health and safety issues and bring concerns to the attention of the Health and Safety Committee as appropriate. - Other duties as assigned. **EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS** - Diploma or degree from a recognized University or College in a Social Service Field or equivalent - Familiar with the key principles of the Youth Criminal Justice Act - Excellent administrative skills are essential - Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment - Familiar with Extrajudicial Sanctions and Extrajudicial Measures - Experience working with youth 12-17 years of age - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Proficiency in computer skills and organization - Valid class "G" driver's license with own vehicle - Provide a current Police Records Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search **WORKING CONDITIONS** - 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday - Occasional evenings and weekends required - This position includes regular travel throughout Durham Region - Infrequent travel to attend Club activities, conferences, and events as deemed necessary - Must provide a clear Criminal Reference Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search - Must have a valid Driver's Licence with a clear driver's abstract, and own vehicle BGC Durham is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection processes and work environment.
