The Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex is seeking a Full Time Premises/ Ice Technician
About the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex (DHMS):
The DHMS is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Hockey rink this upcoming season. Located in the Village of Brookfield, the DHMS is the central hub of hockey in the South Colchester area. Each season the DHMS hosts our own minor hockey association; the Brookfield Jr “B’s hockey team; many men’s daytime and evening hockey leagues, women’s hockey, figure skating & old timer leagues and so many more. We also host up to five tournaments each year. Our facility is also home to the Brookfield Curling Club, which is 4 sheets of curling, a bar & Lounge area. Our building also houses a daycare and seniors spaces. 2025 saw an expansion of our facility with 3 new accessible locker rooms, an accessible washroom off our lobby.
- To maintain a valid Stationary Engineer class 2 refrigeration as required by the Province of Nova Scotia ;
- Responsible for producing and maintaining the best quality of ice in both the hockey rink and curling club;
- Working with the office administrator to interview and hire staff to assist him in carrying out tasks as necessary to the operation of the DHMS;
- Responsible for the day to day operations of the DHMS, ensuring the rink surface is prepared between games;
- In coordination with the office administrator coordinate scheduling of the hockey ice;
- Cleaning and maintaining locker rooms, public areas and washrooms;
- Ensuring the employees under their direction are aware of their duties and are performing their duties to the best of their abilities;
- To replace other staff as necessary when unavailable;
- To monitor and maintain the ice making equipment and plant both electronically and visually as and when necessary;
- There may be a requirement to be on call for ice issues for both ice surfaces;
- Maintain the inventory of cleaning supplies, washroom supplies etc.;
Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Grade 12 or equivalent education
- Valid NS Class 5 driver’s license
- A minimum 2 year experience with the operation of ice resurfacing equipment or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- First Aid/CPR certification and WHMIS certification ( or willingness to obtain)
