ABOUT THE ROLE This position is responsible for researching, planning, coordinating, evaluating and supervising recreation and wellbeing programs, including therapeutic, social, recreational, person centred, spiritual, cultural, religious and volunteer programs, wellbeing services for residents in the Region’s Long Term Care Homes to promote choice using a resident entered, holistic and emotional centred model which includes physical, social, spiritual, intellectual and emotional wellbeing programming and services. WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING - Leads staff, volunteers and contracted services in the planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based measurable programs and services including Therapeutic Recreation, Wellbeing Services (eg. Dentistry, optometry, hair, massage, contracted providers, etc.), Volunteer Services, Spiritual, Cultural and Religious Care in consultation with the inter-disciplinary Team. - Ensures programs and services are in compliance with related Ministry of Long-term Care legislation, Ministry of Labour, Public Health and York Region Policies and procedures and sector best practices. - Meets with resident council to discuss appointment process and if appointed, acts as resident council assistant with the Residents’ Council. - Oversees the assessments of residents to enhance quality of life and promote engagement within the Home and in the community; ensures all documentation are accurately completed and meet timelines and legislation. - Research innovative programs, technology, and delivery models and review and implement best practices. - Ensures program assessments and programs encompass an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusive approach. - Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement program including the Accreditation activities. - Ensures contracts with external providers and agreements are reviewed, evaluated, and renewed, as required. - Promotes the code of conduct, Regional values PEC policies, Collective Agreement with staff. - Responds in a timely manner to emergency resident and staff situations outside of normal working hours to assist in resolving problems. - Develops action plans and responses to concerns regarding recreation, resident wellbeing, spiritual and volunteer services. - Promotes public awareness of programs and services through newsletters, activity calendars, bulletins, announcements, questionnaires and speaki
