TBCA is committed to the creation and maintenance of a safe workplace as highest priority. The Health and Safety Manager oversees and directs the Health and Safety activities within our region. This includes oversight of existing H&S programs and systems, ensuring full understanding and compliance to required standards, safety improvement planning and direction, proactive incident prevention, emergency preparedness, and support of environmental programs. The H&S Manager engages with related regulatory agencies including the Ministry of Labour (MOL), Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), local Public Health units, and others as necessary. Additionally, the H&S Manager acts as advisor to the plant team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Internally, the Manager ensures that departmental functions/projects/milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved targets and budgets, and, the Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs, with full authority for personnel actions. - **Essential Job Function** - Safety Programs Oversight Oversight and improvement of all TBCA H&S systems (internal and external) including: - JHSC coordination and support of the committee - Ergonomic program implementation and support - RTW program - Safety orientation, dojo, and recurrent safety training plan - (as well as specific individual safety training for all employees) - "21 Program" TB internal safety policy system including Vendor safety management - Annual H&S budget preparation and tracking actual performance - Management of H&S staff. - Ensuring Full Compliance with: - Regulatory operating and reporting requirements (OHSA / MOL / WSIB / etc). - TBJ / TBA / TBCA policy and procedures. - Review regularly, and where gaps are identified, coordinate a countermeasure plan - Safety Improvement Planning - Developing a safety culture with direct reports and the plants at large - Conduct the Safety steering committee (Elmira/Woodstock Management) meeting - Plant Safety 4 Pillar Meetings: tracking and resolution of safety incidents using effective problem solving, preventative safety activity, and reducing the cost of poor safety. Monthly safety KPI reporting - Coordinate reports, analyze trends, and develop specific countermeasure plans with all plant operations teams - Proactive Hazard Prevention - Develop structured Risk Assessment activity including GEMBA, audits, and RA. - Oversee TBCA hazardous substances policy (chemical, physical, or biological). - Change point engagement to mitigate safety impact of changes in the work environment. - Oversight of TBCA Emergency Preparation activity, including: - Risk assessment activity, both likelihood of occurrence and ability to properly respond - Maintain Emergency Preparation and Evacuation plan - maintenance of a well-stocked first aid and emergency center - Organizes drills for staff to train them on the appropriate emergency response - Reflection on past emergency situations to consider what the organization could have done to prevent occurrence or to improve response. - Environment - Considers and suggests ways to safely recycle waste products; to appropriately dispose them; and to ensure a reduction in the production and discharge of waste. - ** Minimum Qualifications/Requirements**: **Education**: - Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. - CRSP designation a definite asset. **Experience**: - Eight (8) years of relevant Health and Safety experience required; with four (4) years Managerial. - Automotive or other high-volume manufacturing setting preferred. **Personal/Technical Skills**: - Working knowledge of Health & Safety policy and practice in a high-volume manufacturing facility. - Strong self-directed leadership skills, for a fast-paced, goal-oriented, quality-driven position. - Ability to plan, direct, manage, and perform functions of assigned areas. - Strong administrative and organizational skills to coordinate human resource activities and functions. - Ability to prioritize multiple tasks amongst multiple departments and work efficiently within time constraints and deadlines, by planning, collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skill. - Analytical skill for investigation and problem resolution. - Customer service orientation, with attention to detail. - Ability to create visual reports and concise correspondence / procedures, and present to all levels in the organization, outside officials and agencies, and the public. - Work well in a team based, diverse, multicultural space; your personality builds and promotes same. - Listen well, ask relevant questions, and give and receive clear and understandable instructions. - Maintain highest standards of professional integrity, respecting confidentiality of information. - Show professionalism under stressful situations, and be adapta
