**Purpose/ Summary**:
The Machinist I position performs all aspects necessary for the machining processes used in the manufacturing of components.

**Core Duties and Responsibilities**:
Under General Supervision:

- Operates all manual, CNC, or EDM machines to perform completely and independently specific operations as outlined in the methods and process sheets
- Changes, sets, and adjusts precision tools as required
- Loads and deletes programs in the computer
- Makes minor adjustments of feeds and speeds on the assigned machine
- Grinds own cutting tools and drills (other than special purpose tools)
- Maintains specific tolerances and accurately performs dimensions
- Checks parts using specified gages or furnished fixtures to ensure dimensions are maintained
- Performs routine maintenance checks and reports improper machine function
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area
- Follows all applicable safety rules and precautions
- Assists with related training of other employees as needed
- Performs other related duties as assigned

**Minimum Required Qualifications**:
**Knowledge, Skill & Ability**:

- Working knowledge of the machinability of metals, with a good mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge and ability to use machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments
- Knowledge of shop geometry and trigonometry
- Effective written and verbal communications skills to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak before employees in the organization
- Good math skills, with the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and blueprints
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

**Education/Experience**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent, and
- Three (3) years of relevant experience
