The Opportunity
Do you have strong communication skills, and top-notch customer service skills? Do you enjoy working with a team? If so, then this could be the role for you Reporting to the Parks and Transportation Supervisor, our Operators are an important part of the team, playing a fundamental role in the maintenance of the City’s assets and infrastructure to enhance the safety and quality of life for our citizens and overall community well-being. This position will perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, and maintenance of equipment.

**Responsibilities**:

- Perform duties and operates small tools and equipment used in road maintenance, signal maintenance, storm sewers, snow and ice control, parks and open spaces maintenance, cemeteries, and other functions.
- Perform manual labour such as shoveling, lifting heavy objects, grass trimming and other duties as required.
- Undertake preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and operation of equipment.
- Assume on-call or standby duties on a rotational basis.
- Record keeps through paper processes and work towards transition to digital.
- Work assignments will depend on the season and will vary between Parks and/or Transportation.

Education, Qualifications and Work Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
- Previous experience with manual labour and using small tools and equipment.
- Experience operating equipment is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal, customer service, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing priorities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Be part of an on-call roster on a rotational basis (every 10-12 weeks). There are times where weekend work or night shifts may be required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of tools, with the ability to use technology.
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, and safe work practices. The desire to contribute to a positive safety culture by adhering to all safety standards under OH&S and by compliance with all safe work practices, policies, directives, and procedures.
- Meet physical requirements, lifting of heavy goods and equipment up to 50lbs, standing and sitting for long periods of time, bending, kneeling, twisting etc., and working in all weather conditions.
- Ability to provide a clear criminal record check.
- Ability to provide a driver’s abstract that demonstrates safe and responsible driving behavior.
