Your Opportunity:
This Maintenance I position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering at the University of Alberta Hospitals (UAH) site. The incumbent will assist in maintaining 8 facilities, totaling more than 650,000 m2 of clinical and mechanical space: Acute Care, Laboratory, Research, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial equipment. The Maintenance Worker I will perform a variety of maintenance and repair work on patient and hospital equipment, but are not limited to, Telelift cleaning, filter replacement, Lighting replacement, Special Heavy Cleaning: (Washing/Sweeping/Cleaning of Mechanical Rooms, Shelved space, interstitial areas, Storage rooms, Electrical rooms), operates scrubbing machine, install components and accessories, operates equipment safely and properly, follows appropriate methods and procedures, reports all building and equipment repairs that are required, waste management to the designated bins, operate motorized equipment as required, utilizes pallet jacks, flatbeds, and tilt wagon, Assist FME personnel as a safety watch when elevated work platforms are in use, report maintenance repair, ceiling leaks, mechanical leaks, assist with snow removal, assist in 5S activities, transport and arrange furniture, equipment, and supplies. Completes eFacilities work order and PM forms, My Learning Link courses. Performs other related duties as assigned by Management. Must be reliable, cooperative, and capable of working independently. Required to work in all areas of the hospital facility. Required to have no physical limitations. The Maintenance I’s responsibilities are to uphold the integrity of all systems quality to assure the hospital occupants are in a comfortable and safe environment as per FME and Site requirements. Please Note: This position is available to the Edmonton Zone on an as-needed basis.
Description:
As a Maintenance Worker I, you may perform routine tasks related to grounds keeping and facility maintenance. Working independently and/or as part of team, you may maintain lawns, flowerbeds, trees and shrubs, collect and dispose garbage, remove snow and ice, spread salt and sand, clean mechanical rooms and shop areas, and assist tradespeople and other maintenance staff as needed.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Possession of a valid driver's licence.
**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Required to be reliable, cooperative, and capable of working independently, to work in all areas of the hospital facility. Required to be in good physical condition with the ability to work in awkward positions, lift or move heavy material or equipment, work in hot or dirty environments, work on a ladder with arms above shoulder height for long periods of time, have no physical limitations with regards to sitting, bending, kneeling, or crouching. Require basic computer skills, good English verbal and written communication skills. This position will be required to work on and operate elevated platforms (man lifts). Keep stock of supplies. Required to use required equipment and tools related to maintenance repair; be mechanically inclined; be able to communicate clearly in English; verbally and in writing; be able to maintain composure and make decisions in emergency situations; complete repairs and installations with due consideration to patients, staff and visitors and be able to prioritize and organize workload and ensure duties are completed in a timely manner. Complete duties as assigned by Management. Must be able to act alone without supervision. 2-year maintenance experience in a healthcare setting. Possession of a valid driver's license.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
Grade 12 high school diploma or equivalent. Trade experience would be an asset. Previous work experience may be considered. Knowledge of cleaning techniques, methods and industrial cleaning products is desirable. Demonstrated ability to be flexible in responding to changing demands and workloads. Ability to organize and prioritize workloads. Required to have no physical limitations.
