**INVESTIGATOR, PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT**
**Full-time 12 Month Contract Position, $70,000**
The College of Opticians of Ontario is the body that registers and regulates all opticians in the province, and we ensure that optical services in Ontario are provided by healthcare professionals who maintain a high standard of practice and professionalism.
We are a small and highly motivated team, and as the **Investigator, Professional Conduct**, you’ll have theopportunity to have a big impact. Due to the pandemic, this position requires some in office attendance for team meetings, committee meetings, and hearings, with the balance of the work being performed remotely.
This is a great opportunity to make a difference, grow professionally, and work in a collaborative, supportive team environment. This is a 12-month contract position, however opportunities for extension may be explored toward the end of the contract based on department needs.
As the Investigator, Professional Conduct, you will assist the Manager in ongoing investigations with a focus on Unauthorized Practice and supporting the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (ICRC). The Investigator is adaptable, meticulous, and forward-thinking with solid problem-solving and communication skills, who takes initiative in the following duties:
**Responsibilities**:
- Investigating complaints and reports relating to unauthorized practice and/or the professional conduct of registrants in accordance with the process defined by statute and set out in College policy.
- Responding to general inquiries, including inquiries relating the process for reporting unauthorized practice and status of ongoing matters.
- Assisting the department with new and ongoing complaint and report matters.
- Working with internal and external legal counsel and external investigators as required.
- Supporting the Manager, Professional Conduct, to investigate complaints and reports relating to unauthorized practice
- Ensuring that the Public Register of the College is kept up to date in accordance with the requirements set out in the Regulated Health Professions Act and the College’s by-laws.
- Monitoring registrants’ compliance with orders of the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee and/or acknowledgment and undertakings.
- Maintaining all electronic and paper files to ensure they are accurate, complete and current.
- Maintaining all database and tracking information to ensure it is accurate, complete and current.
- Preparing materials for Committee review.
- Assisting Senior Management with research-based projects relating to Professional Conduct.
- Supporting the Manager, Professional Conduct with complaint/report investigations and/or general departmental functions as needed.
**Required Qualifications**
- At least two years’ related experience, preferably in investigations or with another regulatory body.
- Knowledge of and ability to work within a legislative framework; demonstrated experience with the _Regulated Health Professions Act_, 1991 and the _Health Professions Procedural Code_ is a definite asset.
- Proven exceptional written and verbal communications skills, including experience with formal report writing.
- Experience with conducting interviews and document findings.
- University degree in a relevant field.

- Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Bilingual (French/English) an asset.
