The Position

The General Tradesperson plays a crucial role in keeping our campus safe, functional, and well-maintained. From patching drywall and fixing leaks to repairing furniture and clearing roof drains, no two days are ever the same.

Key Responsibilities and Outcomes
- **Ensure Safe and Functional Spaces** - Perform general carpentry tasks, ensuring doors, frames, furniture, and shelving are in good working condition to enhance campus safety and usability.
- **Maintain Reliable Plumbing Systems** - Conduct minor plumbing repairs, preventing disruptions by fixing leaks, replacing fixtures, and unclogging drains, toilets, and sinks.
- **Enhance Campus Appearance** - Patch and finish drywall, complete painting and staining projects, and conduct regular touch-ups to maintain a professional and inviting atmosphere.
- **Optimize Student Living Areas** - Assemble and repair dormitory furniture, ensuring students have a comfortable and functional living space.
- **Proactively Address Repairs** - Identify maintenance needs and report them to the Manager of Facilities, minimizing downtime and ensuring timely fixes.
- **Manage Maintenance Inventory** - Keep track of tools, furnishings, and materials to ensure timely repairs and replacements without disruption.
- **Support Campus Events** - Assist with setup and takedown for school functions, ensuring smooth operations for events and activities.
- **Contribute to Campus Safety** - Support grounds maintenance, including snow removal, de-icing, and general cleanup, to ensure a hazard-free environment.
- **Adapt and Support Operations** - Take on additional tasks as assigned to meet evolving facility needs.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- **Education** - High school leaving diploma
- **Hands-On Experience** - At least 5 years in building maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, or a related trade.
- **A Problem-Solving Mindset** - Know how to assess an issue and fix it quickly and effectively.
- **Physical Readiness** - Comfortable lifting, carrying, and working in various conditions.
- **Team Player Attitude** - Collaborate well with others and step up when needed.
- **Basic Tech Skills** - Comfortable with Microsoft Office and learning new software.
- **Bilingualism (English & French)** - A strong asset for communication.
- **Valid Driver’s License** - For maintenance work around campus.
