Who We Are

The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children’s shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.

Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is to create healthy communities through fair and effective food systems. Currently, the GVFB distributes 8.9 M lbs of food each year.

**Position Overview**:
The Warehouse Associate efficiently handles, organizes, stores and retrieves goods by hand and with a variety of warehousing equipment, including electric pallet jacks, counterbalanced forklifts and reach trucks. They are also responsible for building orders, upkeep of the warehouse and inventory, and accurately conducting shipping and receiving duties as needed. This position requires constant teamwork and a robust understanding of warehousing and inventory management. A positive attitude, excellent communication skills, flexibility, and a willingness to learn are key elements for success in this role.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Efficiently store incoming products in the warehouse and retrieve outbound products for shipment, loading completed orders onto trucks as needed;
- Accurately pick, palletize, label, wrap and stage outbound orders;
- Rotate stock according to First-In, First-Out (FIFO) and First-Expired, First-Out (FEFO) principles;
- Monitor quality of all food and non-food products handled, reporting any inconsistencies to leadership;
- Ensure warehouse, coolers and freezer are kept clean and organized at all times;
- Uphold best practices in food handling and safe operation of machinery;
- Assist in shipping and receiving duties, accurately recording product information and movements in the warehouse’s digital inbound/outbound system;
- Conduct other warehousing-related tasks as assigned;
- As necessary, support the Distribution and Agencies teams with product movements and setup;
- As necessary, assist the Warehouse Lead and Warehouse Assistant Manager in executing process changes.

**Personal attributes and core skills**:

- Ability to safely and efficiently operate warehouse machinery;
- Ability to effectively communicate with GVFB staff and volunteers both in-person and through written correspondence in a professional manner;
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy;
- Planning, time-management, and resource allocation skills;
- Ability to deal constructively with challenges and consistently provide a solution-oriented approach;
- Flexibility in working in an ever-changing environment where priorities can shift rapidly;
- A positive, can-do attitude

**Qualifications and experience**:

- 1+ years of experience in operating industrial machinery in a warehouse environment, including experience operating electric pallet jacks, counterbalanced forklifts, and reach trucks;
- 1+ years of experience working as part of a team;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams and iOS (iPhone);
- Previous experience with warehouse or inventory management systems is an asset;
- A BC Class 5 driver’s license and ability to provide 3 years insurance claims history and 3 years clean driver’s abstract is an asset as there is opportunity to receive training on relief driving duties.
