Yaletown House is a non profit care facility for seniors with complex care needs and is located in Vancouver, BC. We provide quality health care and services to 127 senior residents in a safe, supportive and home like environment.
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Team Leader, the Care Aide performs nursing procedures such as taking and reporting temperature and pulse, as well as assisting residents with patient care relating to feeding, bathing, personal hygiene and other activities of daily living.
**PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Assists residents by providing personal care such as bathing, dressing, oral hygiene, shaving, cosmetics, nail care, bowel and bladder care, hair care and skin care according to residents identified individual care plan needs.
- Provides for nutritional needs of residents by assisting with feeding as required and noting and reporting changes in eating habits, appetites and food preferences.
- Transfers, porters and ambulates residents within the facility, utilizing mechanical aides such as lifts, wheelchairs, and walkers as outlined in the resident’s individual care plan.
- Enters pertinent resident information by documenting daily/weekly/monthly information in appropriate binders regarding bowel movements, weights, and bathing schedules.
- Performs nursing procedures such as taking and reporting temperature, pulse and respiration, administering suppositories and enemas, obtaining specimens such as urine, applies topical ointments and lotions and non-sterile topical dressings; records observations and reports problems and/or changes to designated nursing staff.
- Encourages and assists residents to participate in social and recreational activities by reminding them of programs; assists resident with ambulation to attend recreational programs.
- Assists with admissions and discharges by performing activities such as weighing resident, hanging up clothes, orienting resident to facility and packing up clothes.
- Reports observed changes in a resident’s behavior or condition to the nurse on duty.
- Ensures proper care and identification of resident’s personal effects by marking personal belongings; collecting clothing for laundry, and distributing when done.
- Reminds residents of their appointments with hairdresser, dentist, doctors, podiatrist, etc. and assists them to appropriate designated areas in Yaletown House.
- Attends unit/facility meetings and education sessions collegially sharing information and problem solving.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Required Education, Skills and Qualifications**
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training and Experience
- Grade 10
- Must have completed a six month recognized Care Aide/Nursing Assistant Course and be registered with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal effectively with others effectively
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
**Shifts**
Day - 7am - 3pm / Afternoon - 3pm - 11pm / Night - 11pm - 7am
**Job Types**: Part-time, Casual
Pay: $29.83 per hour
