Day Camp Team Leader

The Town of Canmore is currently looking for dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic child and youth activity professionals to work with us at our various recreation facilities

As the team lead, you will ensure the smooth and safe operations of our Summer Camps.
What does the job entail? Working with Recreation Services, you will be responsible to train and work closely with camp leaders to plan and implement daily itineraries which provide creative, meaningful, and age-appropriate activities. Your number one priority will be the supervision, enjoyment, and safety of program participants. Goal is to help youth in our community connect, build friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
**Core Accountabilities**:
Create a quality staff training schedule for day camp counsellors and counsellors in training. This will include topics such as behavior management, inclusion, High Five, climbing instruction, aquatics orientation, programming, etc.
Plan and implement indoor and outdoor activities to meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of participants, provide resources and support for team to program plan.
Take daily attendance and maintain accurate and confidential Participant Information Forms. Including updating our registration software with new information.
Assist with evaluating program content and participant satisfaction
Maintain relationships with outside groups to provide creative programming: field trips, guest speakers, with a focus on local groups, physical literacy and activity, Indigenous perspectives, and environmental consciousness.
Punctuality and promptness is paramount to support the program’s success
Other responsibilities as assigned
**Education & Qualifications**:
Post secondary education in the field of education, outdoor pursuits or recreation or a minimum of one year child care, day camp, or relevant experience
Current certification in Standard First Aid and Level C and AED CPR is required
Successful completion of a background RCMP/Police Records Check
**Experience**:
Ability to participate in day camp related activities, e.g. swimming, hiking
Ability to be patient and kind, and firm when necessary
Ability to speak clearly, inspire trust and confidence and motivate children
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to be flexible and versatile in changing circumstances (e.g. weather, behavior)
Ability to deal creatively and effectively with challenges
Strong organizational skills related to program delivery
Ability to work cooperatively with other counsellors, support staff, and parents
Ability to manage and prioritize a number of tasks at once
Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, and professionally at all times
Basic computer literacy skills to include effective working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
