The Tourism Coordinator will be responsible to plan, coordinate and develop tourism programs and promotions with the goal to attract visitors to the community. This position will oversee the operation of the Welcome Centre and will respond to requests for information from potential visitors regarding tourism programs. This position will also manage all social media channels and web platforms for the Tourism department.
**Reporting To**:Manager of Strategic Initiatives
**Responsibilities**:
1. Implement tourism plans, projects, and activities within the Municipality of Kincardine
2. Lead the planning, development, and implementation of a tourism marketing strategy
3. Monitor social, tourism and economic trends locally, provincially, and globally; Undertake research on tourism opportunities and weaknesses
4. Coordinate various tourism events and activities
5. Greet visitors at the Welcome Centre; respond to general requests for information from potential visitors; promote the Municipality of Kincardine
6. Develop and maintain promotional material (print and electronic) for tourism initiatives in the Municipality of Kincardine
7. Promote local events and act as an external resource for tourism activities
8. Present information on tourism awareness or new initiatives, on behalf of the community and other events providers
9. Plan, create and manage engaging social media content (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
10. Support the development of social media strategies; Monitor social media channels for trends and news to optimize social media presence
11. Engage with followers and respond to comments and messages in a timely manner
12. Assist with web content management ensuring municipal websites are current with accurate information.
13. Develop and produce high quality, informative and engaging written content for brochures, newsletters, media releases, flyers, and other marketing materials as needed
14. Assist with developing strategic tourism partnerships; identify needs and encourage community participation
16. Oversee and track progress, maintaining records to evaluate the success of tourism initiatives, projects, events, statistics, and finances
17. Contribute to the development of the tourism budget and monitor the departmental expenses and follow up with significant variances
18. Provide leadership to Welcome Centre students and volunteers, assist with interviews, evaluate staff, and provide training
19. Act as staff resource for BIA, local Chamber of Commerce, and municipal event Committees
20. Comply with Municipality of Kincardine policies and procedures
21. Perform other tasks as assigned by management
**Education & Experience Requirements**:
- Post-Secondary education in Business Administration, Hospitality & Tourism, Marketing or a related field
- 3 years of experience in a related role
- Experience working in a municipal environment is considered an asset
**Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies**:
- Knowledge of the tourism industry including ministry structure, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of the Municipality of Kincardine and Bruce County assets, destinations, retail, and hotels
- In depth knowledge of social media platforms, trends and best practices
- Excellent administrative, organization and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to deal professionally and effectively with the public, community partners, Council and staff
- Ability to provide positive and friendly customer service to the public and ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to implement project plans involving multiple stakeholders
- Ability to take initiative and work well independently
- Demonstrated work history that highlights teamwork and a positive attitude
**Employment Information**:
- Permanent, Full-Time Position
- 35 Hours per Week
- 2025 Compensation = Group 8 (Step 1 $33.92/hr - Step 5 $42.40/hr)
- Attendance at evening and weekend meetings or events will be required during the summer season
