**Job Posting**

The Utility Operator 1 position encompass a wide variety of skilled heavy equipment duties in various locations indoors and outdoors in various working conditions. By working safely and cooperatively with others you will contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Operates heavy equipment (such as but not limited to the following; Tandem, Loader, Backhoe, Street Sweeper,10 ton Roller, Grader);
- Load and unload equipment and materials;
- Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment;
- Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications;
- Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;
- Participate in Winter Works, as required, including shift work if necessary.
- Must be willing to accept occupational related training and achieve proficiency in operation of snow and ice equipment;
- Other duties as assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education and Experience**:

- Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Three (3) years related work experience.
- Must have a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License Class 3 with Air Brake endorsement;
**Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities**:

- Must be trained and experienced in operating CAT 140H grader equipment or equivalent
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills;
- Must have a good attendance and work record;
- Working knowledge of methods, material and equipment usage involved in Road Operations and Construction;
- Capable and willing to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions;
- Ability to work independently, and as a team player;
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with members of your team, traffic control and signage and/or members of the public.
- WHMIS, CPR/First Aid certification, Provincial Traffic Control Certification and Signage Course or ability to successfully complete.

**Security Clearance Requirements**: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.

**WORK STATUS**: Permanent, full-time

**SALARY**: $28.48 per hour, as per the CUPE 108 Collective Agreement

**WORK LOCATION**: 11 Turner Drive, Dartmouth
