**Lennon House Peer Support Worker Overnight shift 11 pm - 7 am**

**Overview of the position**

“Recovery is a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.” (_Samhsa)_ Usually, Peer Support staff come alongside the residents in their recovery journey being a role model to healthy living and recovery, demonstrating a knowledge of addiction and mental health and the recovery process with the ability to de-escalate potential volatile situations. Overnight staff do not engage with residents to the same degree, but must be prepared to deal with any crisis that may arise; the main concern is the safety and security of the residents.

All employees are required to sign a code of conduct and a confidentiality agreement and must be discreet and discerning when working with residents. A high moral standard of work ethics will be required at all times.

General duties
- Upon arrival, overnight staff will debrief with evening staff as to what has happened on their shift and anything to look out for concerning the residents. Then one person will do a security walk through and make sure all doors and windows are locked at 11 p.m.
- At 12am., 2 am. and 5am. overnight staff will do a room check. There is protocol to follow; then logs to initial.
- Make a notation in the log book if anything significant occurred on shift.
- Overnight staff is expected to stay awake.
- See Duty List for your shift in staff room.
- Escalate concerns and recommendations to management regarding residents. Fill out a Duty to Inform or Incident report Form if necessary.
- Be familiar with, and abide by, the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Staff Handbook.
- Good communication skills
- In the absence of management, call emergency services if required.
- Maintain good communication with your co-worker on each shift. You are a team and each of you needs to know, in general, where the other one is.

**Qualifications**:

- Grade 12. Demonstrated knowledge of addictions and recovery process.
- Peer Support Training or Resident Care Worker Training an asset.
- If applicant is in recovery, must have minimum 2 years recovery from addiction and be currently active in a recovery community.
- Ability to work well with people in need. Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to keep records.
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector check required.
- Valid Driver’s license. Driver’s abstract required.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent, Casual

Pay: $23.40 per hour
