**The British Columbia Conservation Foundation and Origins Environmental are looking for crew members to assist with riparian restoration work on the Southeast Vancouver Island**

**British Columbia Conservation Foundation and Origins Environmental**are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to step into the role of **Intermediate Restoration Technician -** **Team Lead** for the Fall and Winter 2025 restoration field season. The Team Lead will support and lead on-the-ground implementation of riparian and wetland habitat restoration projects across southern Vancouver Island (Mill Bay to Qualicum Area).This position is ideal for someone with a background in environmental work who is looking to grow and develop their leadership and project coordination skills in a hands-on setting. The Team Lead will report to Elodie Roger, Origins Environmental Founder & Restoration Biologist.

**Responsibilities**:

- Supervise and coordinate a small field crew (2-3 members) during daily restoration activities
- Lead implementation of riparian, wetland, and upland habitat restoration projects, including planting, invasive species removal, erosion control, and installation of bioengineering structures.
- Ensure safe work practices and adherence to health and safety protocols in the field.
- Organize daily work plans, delegate tasks, and support skill development of crew members.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, landowners, and partners to ensure smooth operations and address on-site challenges.
- Maintain accurate field records, including photo monitoring, plant survival counts, site notes, and equipment logs.
- Assist with logístical planning, including equipment preparation, site access, and coordination of travel schedules.
- Troubleshoot unexpected site conditions and communicate with Project coordinator plans as required.
- Represent the program professionally in interactions with the landowners.

**Qualifications**:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada for the specified period.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed when used for work).
- OFA Level 1 First Aid required; higher-level certifications (OFA 2/3, S100 wildfire, ATV/UTV operation, chainsaw safety) considered assets.

**Skills**:

- 2-3 years of experience in ecological restoration, environmental studies, forestry, horticulture, or a related field.
- Perform manual labour tasks such as digging, carrying plants and materials, and installing fencing or protective structures, and assisting with the collection and organization of supplies and equipment.
- Strong leadership and crew coordination skills, with experience supervising small field teams and delegating tasks effectively.
- Ability to plan, organize, and implement riparian, wetland, and upland restoration activities, including planting, invasive species management, erosion control, and bioengineering techniques.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in variable weather conditions and on uneven terrain, while ensuring safe work practices for the team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for coordinating with partners, landowners, and project managers.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and adaptable, with strong problem-solving skills in dynamic field settings.
- Competent in record-keeping and field data collection (e.g., photo monitoring, plant survival counts, site assessments).
- Demonstrated interest in building a career in ecological restoration and mentoring junior staff.
