**Position Summary**
Reporting to the Manager Technical Service or delegate, the Technician will provide technical expertise and support to the S&C Division at all levels, to safeguard the integrity of the signal plant by ensuring policies, standards, regulations and safe work practices are understood and implemented. The Technician will also provide coaching to ensure that awareness, knowledge and practice of safe signaling methodologies are embedded in the workplace culture.
**Unionized position**

**Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties**
- Performs complex technical functions in support of engineering activities such as set up, operation, maintenance, modification, circuit testing, calibration and troubleshooting of electronic or electro-mechanical components and systems;
- Reading schematics and engineering drawings;
- Deciphering O&M manuals ensuring that applicable design complies with manufactures specifications;
- Provide technical expertise and support to Operations
- Support testing and commissioning team in meeting project timelines;
- Ensure that all safety policies are enforced; conducts regular site inspections/audits;
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
**General/Other Responsibilities and Duties**
- Follow detailed instruction as outlined in control documentation (Assembly & Test Procedures) and manufacturing shop practices
- Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal instructions
- Prepare written reports and/or updates such as work methodology / commissioning
- Ensure submittals of testing documents are complete.
- Review testing and commissioning plans written by other members of the team for accuracy.
- Provide coaching to field staff with respect to work methodologies, and planning.
- Provide classroom training to employees and/or customers, if required.
- Assist with accident or incident investigation for technical requirements.
**Required Skills and Qualifications**
- A minimum of seven (7) years of experience gained in Signals & Communications or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience such as
- Completion of a post-secondary degree in Electronic Technology or Electronic Technician diploma
- Valid driver’s license with clean abstract
- Understanding of various signaling systems.
- Understanding of crossing warning systems and Transport Canada’s RTD-10 and AREMA requirements
- Ability to read, interpret and comprehend drawings and specifications and contract documents
- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and consistently meet expectations.
- Demonstrated management skills including the ability to lead, mentor and motivate employees.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
**Physical Requirements and Working Conditions**
- Mostly works outdoors and occasionally works indoors at construction sites;
- Stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction;
- May be exposed to live track/trains and loud noise;
- May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
