The National Judicial Institute (NJI) is an independent, bilingual, not‐for‐profit organization, based in Ottawa and Montreal, with a mandate to coordinate and deliver educational programming to members of the judiciary across Canada.
Internally, a team of lawyers assist judicial education planning committees on matters of content and pedagogical design, while meeting professionals coordinate all logístical aspects of the conferences. As part of its curriculum, the NJI offers over 70 judicial education programs each year. In addition, the Institute provides a number of educational resources to members of the judiciary, such as Judicial Education Guides, Electronic Bench Books, hard‐copy publications, educational modules to assist in program design, and an online judicial library.

The NJI is looking to fill the indefinite position of Systems Administrator based in Ottawa.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Information Technology, the Systems Administrator is responsible for installing the necessary hardware and software to set up a computer network, and customizes it to meet the ongoing needs of the NJI. They are also responsible for setting up proper network security measures to ensure the safety of the system.

Network and Applications Maintenance
1. Deploy, configure, maintain and monitor the network equipment and servers hosted onsite and, in the cloud, (including firewalls, switching equipment, backup, security management, printers, wireless \ wired internet access and computing infrastructure);
4. Select, order and install new hardware and software;
5. Provide Tier 2 level support for all approved hardware and software, responding to and solving trouble tickets, including on-call and weekend work as required;
6. Manage user account creation, modification, and deletion. Manage user permissions and access control;
7. Provide support for virtual desktop infrastructure, including VMware, virtual machines, and ESXi hosts;
8. Conduct system backups and recovery; and
9. Contribute to planning and configuring the implementation of cybersecurity tools. Monitor and ensure cyber-related alerts are effectively dealt with in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

Technical Support
1. Implement, support, and maintain the Remote Access Infrastructure (VPN);
2. Liaise with end users and recommends appropriate equipment and software configurations; and
4. Liaise with managed support service vendors in effectively addressing cybersecurity threats.

Planning and Coordination
1. Assist the Senior Manager, IT with technology assessment and planning through ongoing research;
2. Perform network design and capacity planning; Provide suggestions or options for resource requirements;
3. Maintain comprehensive documentation describing the network's layout and operational considerations. Diagram processes and systems for the IT team;
4. Responsible for IT asset management;
5. Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services; and
6. Work with a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to enhance the Institute’s IT environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
1. University degree in a relevant field; OR a combination of experience, training and education;
2. Minimum of 4 years of experience in administration servers and a network;
3. Experience in performance and capacity planning;
5. Experience managing Microsoft 365 environment;
6. Experience in server virtualization support and implementation via VMware ESXi;
7. Experience working with TCP/IP network protocols, virtual local area networks (VLANs), routers, switches, Wireless Access Points;
8. Experience with server-class hardware support and troubleshooting;
9. Experience working with firewall and Managed Detection and Response (MDR) security related technologies;
10. Experience working with VPNs and related remote access technologies;
11. Experience working with RMM (Remote Monitoring & Management) tools;
12. Advanced knowledge of Windows Server infrastructure components (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, File and Print, Group Policy);
13. Ability to plan and manage a variety of projects;
14. Willing and able to travel nationally for work; and
15. Fluent in English (R/W/O).

Desirable
1. Certifications in Microsoft Solutions;
2. Fluently bilingual in French and English (R/W/O); and
3. Proficiency in Project Management Software, such as Asana.
