**Job Summary**

The Associate Country Risk will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, recommending and defending risk ratings for sovereign, country and subnational governments in specified geographies (e.g. countries, provinces and US states). They will also support the development of portfolio insights including deep dive analyses of the potential impact of significant country risks and trends on portfolio credit quality.

**What is the opportunity?**

The Country Risk team produces enterprise-level sovereign, country and subnational risk assessments and generates value-added insights and advice to ensure that country risks within the portfolio are broadly understood, within risk appetite and properly considered across the organization.

The Associate Country Risk will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, recommending and defending risk ratings for sovereign, country and subnational governments in specified geographies (e.g. countries, provinces and US states). They will also support the development of portfolio insights including deep dive analyses of the potential impact of significant country risks and trends on portfolio credit quality.

**What will you do?**
- Proactively review sovereign, country and subnational risk assessments annually, and as required, in order to ensure that risk ratings are continuously current
- Maintain a database of geographic risk ratings and early warning indicators for specified geographies in order to analyze and disseminate geographic risk information quickly to key stakeholders
- Participate in the communication of information to stakeholders via in-person briefings and reports published on the Country Risk website
- Conduct research on global economic, geopolitical, societal and other trends
- Assist in maintaining relevant risk rating models
- Assist in maintaining country control lists (e.g. Restricted and No Business Lists)
- Contribute to country limit setting and limit increase requests
- Contribute to deep dive analyses of the potential impact of significant country risks and trends on portfolio credit quality

**What do you need to succeed?**

**Must-have**
- Undergraduate degree in economics, policy, finance, or a related field
- 2+ years of relevant work experience, including complex data analysis
- Working knowledge of world financial markets, international economics and politics, public debt and government fiscal policy
- Strong conceptual thinking and attention to detail; ability to obtain, analyze and interpret complex information from a wide variety of sources, identify critical risk issues, and make and defend recommendations
- Very strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication

**Nice-to-have**
- Graduate degree in economics, policy, finance, or a related field.
- Work experience in credit analysis or portfolio management
- Familiarity with RBC’s international organization, goals, and business objectives
- CFA, FRM or professional designations
