**Position Summary**:
The Buyer plays a key role in managing Ampco's procurement operations, ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and compliant sourcing of materials to meet production and business needs. This position is accountable for driving supplier performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and maintaining efficient procurement processes. The Buyer collaborates with cross-functional teams to support operational goals and enhance the company’s supply chain effectiveness.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Place orders based on requisitions from Production Planners, Supervisors, and other authorized personnel, ensuring alignment with operational priorities.
- Manage all aspects of procurement, including tracking shipment schedules, maintaining accurate ERP records, and providing timely updates to stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain supplier relationships, including onboarding new suppliers, managing supplier quality records, and assisting with supplier evaluations.
- Negotiate with suppliers to resolve issues such as defective materials, pricing discrepancies, and delivery delays.
- Conduct cost analyses and identify opportunities for savings and process improvements.
- Request and manage quotes, coordinate transportation for shipments, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and certifications.
- Provide materials data and samples for Sales or Production teams as required.
- Collaborate with internal departments, including Estimating, Finance, Production, and Sales, to align procurement activities with business objectives.
- Collaborate with inventory control teams to ensure accurate stock levels and minimize overstock or shortages.
- Stay informed of industry trends and emerging products or services through supplier engagement and research.
- Build and maintain robust purchasing files and records to support audits and reporting.
- Handle material deviation reports and drive corrective actions to mitigate risk.
- Perform other duties and special projects to support departmental and organizational goals.
**What You Bring to Ampco**:
- Minimum 3+ years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment, with a proven track record in supplier management and cost optimization.
- Professional designation in Supply Chain Management (SCMP) or equivalent is preferred but not required.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to provide practical solutions and insights.
- A high degree of accountability, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English.
- A proactive and results-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Collaborative approach, with strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships across departments and with suppliers.
