Job Summary
To evaluate and execute recruitment strategies and advising services for all secondary and post-secondary school students, parents and counselors in Canada for the purpose of encouraging qualified prospective students to seek admission to UBC. Specifically responsible for researching and developing strategies to attract students who self-identify as Black Canadian to consider UBC and to work with the broader recruiter-advisor team with regards to implementation. Advise students with secondary and post-secondary credentials concerning University admission criteria and specific program requirements for admission to UBC undergraduate programs on both campuses. This position is located on our Vancouver campus and works in close collaboration with Okanagan campus colleagues and the Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program staff on each campus.

Organizational Status
The Recruiter-Advisor reports to the Associate Director, Student Recruitment & Advising (SRA). The position works closely in collaboration with: (a) Colleagues in Student Recruitment and Advising (b) other staff in Enrolment Services and Student Services, (c) The Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program staff on both campuses (d) other faculty-based Advisors, (e) the UBC Black Caucus and (f) other units on the two campuses to support the recruitment, advising, admission, and transition to UBC. This position will be required to travel throughout BC and other Canadian provinces and territories.

Work Performed

1. In consultation with the Director and Associate Director, develops and executes a recruitment strategy in support of the university's enrolment goals for our Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. The position focuses on prospective students who self-identify as Black Canadian and researching the current barriers that this group of students encounters and opportunities to increase enrollment of Black students at UBC.

2. Reviews pre-enrolment data and recruitment activities from prior years and makes recommendations to the entire SRA team, for future activities focused on outreach geared at prospective Black Canadian students. Works with the Black Caucus to expand current list and connections with Black youth serving organizations across the country and develop recommendations for the university experience of Black students in post-secondary and at UBC.

3. Work collaboratively in identifying issues and developing strategies to encourage Black Canadian students to access post-secondary education at one of our two UBC campuses. Includes researching issues and barriers related to the recruitment and retention of Black undergraduate students and building relationships with existing and new schools, organizations and affiliated communities.

4. Represent UBC accurately, dynamically, and strategically to prospective high school and transfer students, parents, counselors, and external communities and organizations who work with Black youth. Communicates information to a broad audience regarding the mission and vision of UBC, admissibility to academic programs, financial support and scholarships, residence and other services which act as major factors in the choice of post-secondary institutions.

5. Liaise with key staff, faculty and groups (i.e. Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program; Undergraduate Admissions Office; the Black Caucus; Advisors within the faculties) and lead in the implementation of recruitment strategies and programs for prospective Black Canadian students.

6. Collaborate with colleagues in Enrolment Services, Beyond Tomorrow Scholars Program, Equity and Inclusion Office and the Centre for Teaching and Learning Technology to develop and imple
