**Position Summary**
The School Safety Coach will engage on a daily basis with students and administration to ensure schools are a safe and inclusive environment. Focus is on safety, security, and welfare of all students, staff and visitors.
**Job Duties/Responsibilities**
- developing a safe, secure, anonymous and confidential reporting/tracking system for students and staff
- building close ties within the school community to raise awareness of safety concerns and diffuse volatile situations
- referring students and families to external agencies for mental and physical health supports, including group homes
- developing connections and communications with families and group homes
- engaging students and staff through daily check-ins to encourage positive behaviour and trust
- supporting school clubs, teams, and providing mentorship to students needing positive adult connections
- demonstrating personal interest in staff and students as well as supporting school clubs and teams and providing day-to-day mentorship
- collaborating with community service providers, Alberta Health, and Edmonton Police Service in emergent situations
- focusing on mental health supports, conducting wellness checks, and implementing Violent Threat Risk Assessments (VTRA) with documentation
- preparing and delivering presentations on personal safety, substance abuse, bullying, and cyber bullying, and distributing educational resources

**Education/Qualifications**
- diploma in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or related social science field
- a minimum of three years related experience including coaching and mentoring at-risk youth
- experience promoting safety and belonging, conducting risk assessments, and working with social support agencies and mental health services
- proven ability to build and maintain strong connections with community partners, families, and group homes
- skilled in communication, public speaking, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders
- demonstrated tact, diplomacy, cultural awareness, and sensitivity in supporting youth and school communities

**Rate of Pay**
$37.56 - $47.92 per hour
