Manager of Support Services

**SUMMARY OF POSITION**:
Reporting to the Director of Support Services, as a member of the leadership team, the Manager of Support Services is accountable for all aspects of the day-to-day delivery of Dining and Housekeeping Services at The Meadows Community in accordance with Nova Scotia provincial licensing regulations, Infection Prevention and Control Standards, and Mountains & Meadows Care Group (MMCG) organizational policies.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The Manager of Support Services provides oversight, supervision, leadership, and constructive direction to assigned staff and acts ethically and as a professional role model while representing the Support Services departments. The Support Services Manager carries out administrative and operational functions within each department as required.
**DUTIES**:
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, educate, discipline, supervise, and conduct performance reviews of all employees in assigned areas
- Complete payroll entry
- Manage inventory
- Conduct audits and reports
- Hold quarterly staff meetings
- Seasonal menu development in collaboration with Dining Services Team and clients
- Budget management and variance analysis of multiple departments
- Development of contingency plans in response to emergency situations or service interruptions
- Work in collaboration with all staff to support the mission, vision and values of MMCG
- Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure the needs of individual clients are met via evidence-based outcomes
- With appropriate training: assist, support and guide clients in all activities of daily living including, but not limited to: leisure activities; meal and snack provision; and helping to maintain the general upkeep of the home
- Foster and maintain a safe and supportive environment for all
- Document and/or communicate changes in client mood, behaviour, or condition to all appropriate staff
- Participate in committees/meetings as required (including Joint Occupational Health & Safety and Infection Prevention and Control)
- Promote client safety through continued quality assurance and improvements
- Additional duties as required up to and including operational oversight of Willowvale Supervised Apartments (sister organization under MMCG)
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Graduation from a recognized program in Nutrition and Food Services Management (preferred), completion of an Environmental Services training course or 3 years equivalent experience and training in advancing leadership roles
- Education and training on:
- Supportive decision-making
- The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
- Member in good standing or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (asset)
- Member of Infection Prevention and Control Canada (asset)
- Advanced Food Safety certification (required or willingness to obtain)
- Minimum two years supervisory experience with Support Services (Foodservices, Laundry and Housekeeping) in a residential setting
- Experience working in a unionized environment or managing unionized staff
- Experience working with people of diverse abilities
- WHMIS certification
**SKILLS AND ABILITIES**:
- High standards for customer service/person-centered care, food safety, physical space and environmental cleanliness
- Understanding of infection control protocols
- Proven accountability (fiscal, food/chemical safety, quality improvement)
- Demonstrated effective planning, time management, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to operate relevant kitchen and housekeeping equipment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (English)
- Experience with policy and procedure development
- Demonstrated initiative, leadership, management, coaching, conflict resolution and team building skills
- Sound working knowledge of related office equipment and Windows based software including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and adapt to changes
- Ability to establish harmonious relationships with staff, clients, families, volunteers and visitors of the home
- Demonstrated judgement, problem solving, decision-making skills and empathy toward others
- Ability to work outside of set schedule/beyond normal working hours as required
- Ability to withstand the physical demands of the position (lifting, standing, walking, sitting)
**Hours of work**
- Mon - Fri, 8am-4pm. Occasional weekends and hours outside of work may be required
**Salary**
- $21.63/hr
