New employees must provide documentation/proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.

**Position Summary**:
The Organizational Wellness Specialist is an integral and dynamic member of the Organizational Development and Wellness team that will actively lead, design, implement and evaluate a comprehensive and robust employee health and wellness program. Proactive and dedicated support of employee wellbeing will include direct staff support and the development of programs to promote a safe, healthy and supportive workplace focused on a holistic approach to wellness.

**Position Requirements**:
University degree in Social or Health Sciences, such as social work, psychology, health promotion, public health, kinesiology

Mental health training/ certification is an asset, e.g. mental health first aid, ASIST

Knowledge of CSA Standard for Psychological Health and Safety

Familiarity with local community support and social services considered an asset

Minimum three (3) years of experience in the delivery of Health and Wellness Programs, in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, unionized environment

Experience and ability to build and implement wellness/ health promotion programming

Experience performing hazard/ risk assessment

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Demonstrated skills in teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration within a hospital environment

Familiarity with joint occupational health and safety committee activities, experience working with a joint occupational health and safety committee considered an asset

Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated presentation and/or group facilitation skills considered an asset

Working knowledge of Employment Equity Act, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion basic principles and best practices

Proficient working with and navigating computer software programs such as Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

**Position Responsibilities**:
**Organizational Wellness**

Support the development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive, proactive workplace wellbeing program focused on mental health, workplace culture and healthy lifestyle promotion that aligns with the SMGH mental health strategy and strategic plan.

Develop and enhance programs for employees that promote psychological safety, improves the health and wellness, identifies mental health hazards/ risks, increases morale and retention, and decreases absenteeism according to key metrics.

Work collaboratively across the organization to promote a safe, healthy and supportive workplace and engage staff in the related programming.

Identify trends and opportunities to strive towards recognized standards of excellence in psychological safety, employee health and wellbeing.

Aligns health and wellness activities with strategic directions and priorities, including but not limited to ensuring a safe, healthy (mentally and physically) and supportive workplace.

Provide exceptional customer service within a dynamic work environment

Performs cross-functional and/or other duties, as assigned or requested.

**Staff Support**

**Recognize signs of agitation and effectively redirect/deescalate behaviours in a supportive and respectful manner when appropriate.**

**Provide consultation service to staff who have workplace concerns and respond to incidents of disrespect in the workplace.**

**Provide tools and resources to help employees adapt and maintain a healthy lifestyle, and access mental health promoting supports and services.**

**Present a welcoming, non-judgmental approach to supporting the mental, physical and emotional health and wellbeing of staff within a fair and supportive environment.**

**Provide thorough and sensitive explanation of the options for individual, group and organizational care provided through the EFAP.**
