LAUNDRY ATTENDANT / HOUSEPERSON
REPORTS TO HOUSEKEEPING MANAGER
THE ROLE:
The Laundry Attendant position is generally responsible for cleaning and sanitizing items according to company policies, procedures, programs, and performance standards. Responsible for providing clean linens to all departments.
The Houseperson position is generally responsible for cleaning and supplying guest public areas and assist room and laundry attendants in moving supplies, in accordance with standards set forth by the hotel, ensuring that all guest requests receive prompt attention and friendly service.
ACTIVITIES:
The duties and responsibilities for the Laundry Attendant include, but are not limited to the following:
- Collect soiled linens by cart from floors. Sort all articles by type, color and degree of soil. Inspects all laundry and linens and records all damaged and stained items.
- Wash, dry, fold and press laundry daily.
- Treat stains on laundry by using appropriate chemicals.
- Operate washers and dryers according to recommended capacity and other manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Ensure necessary chemicals are added in the correct quantities prior to wash cycles.
- Clean dryers, washing machines and laundry room.
- Perform inventory of linens, towels etc.
- Properly adheres to hotel’s lost and found policies.
- Rotate inventory.
- Inform supervisor of malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
The duties and responsibilities for the Houseperson include, but are not limited to the following:
- Thorough and complete cleaning requirements on all guest floors, public washroom, elevators, stairwells, and interior/exterior public areas, fitness room/showers as set by efficiency standards of the hotel.
- Carpet Shampooing and deep cleaning.
- Ensure security standards are practiced, to protect guest’s and employee’s privacy and belongings.
- Follow hotel policies in relation to key control, and the security of hotel property, including linens, supply carts, vacuums and storage rooms.
- Meet and exceed guest and co-worker expectations by providing exemplary service and teamwork.
- Ensure all guests receive prompt attention, providing value-added service by doing whatever is reasonable and possible to exceed guest expectations.
- Assist with inventories and help prevent waste and misuse of guest and cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Assist room attendants in order to have a smooth operation. Remove all garbage, soiled linen and dirty food trays from corridors in a prompt manner.
- Adhere to all hotel policies and procedures, and follow procedures listed in shift checklists.
- Clean corridors and vents.
- Strip rooms.
- Wash floor and windows.
- Responds to Front desk calls, assisting in checking rooms, luggage delivery and guest special request.
- Communicates with MOD and co-workers regarding product/ service deficiencies, equipment, safety problems, etc.
- Maintains pool and fitness room supplies of towels.
COMPETENCIES WE ARE SEEKING:
- Considerable amount of walking
- Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance
- Able to push and pull carts weighing up to 200lbs regularly throughout shift
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, reaching forward, lifting, stooping and neck wrist and hand movement. Continuous standing for an extended time period - Reaching heights of approximately 6 ft and depths of 2-½ -3 ft.
- Operate cleaning equipment
- Exposure to heat, steam, smoke, cold.
- Must have high level of mobility/flexibility in space provided.
- Outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Flexible attitude to scheduled shifts - the incumbent may need to work nights, weekends and/or holidays
- Flexible and energetic with the ability to work under pressure during busy times
- Literacy skills - reading, writing, and oral
- Outstanding organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, honest and work well independently and in a team environment with minimum supervision
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: $17.21 per hour
Expected hours: 16 - 40 per week
