**Worksite**: Central Library, Information Services Department and Branches

The Vancouver Public Library is seeking Library School students interested in gaining experience in a public library setting. The student will work in a public service unit, either in the Information Services department at our Central Library in downtown Vancouver, or in any of VPL’s 20 branch locations located across the City.

The work schedule will be Sunday to Thursday, 35 hours per week, with a daily schedule that varies based on operational needs. All scheduled shifts will be between the hours of 8:30am - 8:10 pm. This is a 2-month term, in July and August. Applicants must be available during this period.

**Job Summary**: Working under the direction of the supervising Librarian, the Student Librarian provides reference and information services to the public, performs collection development tasks, participates in training and workshops, answers direction and general information questions regarding location of material, facilities or other matters, and assists in special projects. This is professional library work at the trainee level.

**Qualifications**:
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Some knowledge of the practices and principles of librarianship.
- Some knowledge of the division or branch’s collections and related resource materials.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to meet the public, promote interest in library services and assist library patrons.

**Salary**: $31.66 to $37.20 per hour
**Work Schedule**:
**Information Services (One Position)**:
Sunday to Wednesday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
Thursday: 12:30pm - 8:30pm

**Branches (Two Positions)**:
Sunday to Thursday: Between the Hours of 8:30am - 8:10pm
