**ROLE PURPOSE**
The Communications Specialist will support integrated communications and engagement strategies across the organization. This position will create compelling content for various audiences and mediums, and assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of strategic communications and engagement approaches across all channels.
**STATUS**
Exempt. This position is open to applicants of all genders.
**HOURS**
Monday to Friday, 0830-1630, 40 hours per week
This position requires the ability to work flexible hours based on operational needs.
**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Ensures consistent and comprehensive communication to support the organization and our brand through the development of strong strategies and compelling content
- Participates as a key member of the Communications & Engagement team, working collaboratively on strategic communications and engagement initiatives which support the organization’s strategic priorities
- Produces content for internal and external communications materials, projects, and initiatives
- Supports the digital and community presence of the organization across BC and the Yukon, including through the planning and identification of community events and engagement strategies to enhance brand awareness
- Assists in the development of media and public relations strategies, including the identification, planning, and coordination of opportunities for proactive engagement
- Supports key Communications and Engagement department processes and initiatives such as:
- Development and implementation of the organization’s communications calendar and communications plans, including strategy and content development
- Development and distribution print and digital marketing materials to support brand awareness, including design and development of print and digital materials
- Organization of internal and external events, meetings and materials, employee retention, and recognition initiatives
- Researches and presents opportunities for implementation of communications best practices and innovative processes
- Identifies, and as assigned, implements proactive communications strategies to ensure sharing of information, organizational work and values, and brand integrity and recognition more widely
- Supports the development of the organization’s communications and engagement strategy, and works towards annual goals by coordinating and executing various initiatives and events
**EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS**
- A bachelor’s degree and/or professional designation, with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of applicable or relevant transferable past work experience
- Strong written communications skills, including impeccable English grammar and editing skills
- Experience in creating and publishing written and visual content for traditional and digital communication channels
- Experience creating accessible content, training, and marketing materials
- Experiencing with the communication of sensitive information, and the ability to navigate challenging situations
- Experience in community engagement and public relations
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Excellent time and project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams
- Experience in graphic design and strong knowledge of appropriate software including the Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint, and Adobe Creative Cloud

- Strong understanding of and a sensitivity to complex political and cultural environments
**REQUIREMENTS**
- Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
- Ability to successfully complete an Enhanced Security Clearance
- Ability to successfully pass a reference check
- Valid driver’s license
- Proof of Covid-19 Vaccination
- Completed TB Screening
**COMPENSATION**
Annual Salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications. This role will also be eligible for the Society’s comprehensive Management Benefits Package.
