Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Health and Safety Specialist is accountable for the implementation and monitoring of processes and practices to achieve a safe work environment. Position includes providing occupational health and safety advice to the plant staff in order to facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety legislation/guidelines/standards, and to support the plant’s safety program and initiatives.

Please note that this is a Full time, Permanent Role.

Key Accountabilities
- Provide guidance and technical support to plant management regarding specific issues relative to health & safety programs and policies.
- Facilitation and monitoring of the plant safety program to eliminate the risks causing workplace incidents and injuries and ensuring a safe work environment for employees, contractors and visitors.
- Accountable for identifying trends, areas of improvement and communicating with plant management. In addition, using collected information to develop and deliver HSE training and programs to the workforce.
- Conduct audits to ensure safe plant operations, and facilitate, develop and implement corrective actions with plant management as required.
- Collect and analyze statistical data pertaining to the plant’s health and safety program. Prepare reports to support various health and safety initiatives.
- Manage all plant WCB claims. In conjunction with Sofina Foods Inc. Claims Managers, coordinate and facilitate WCB/WSIB proactive initiatives and programs.
- Lead and provide ongoing support/participation to the Joint Health & Safety Committee.

**Requirements**:

- Minimum 3 years’ experience leading health and safety in a manufacturing environment. Experience in the food production would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of claims management and applicable workers’ compensation board policies and procedures.
- Experience working with management and safety committees, developing safety programs, conducting audits, training and implementing best practices.
- Certification from a recognized occupational health & safety program, in the process of obtaining certification, or an equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered.
- Knowledge of applicable provincial and/or federal safety regulations and legislations, and occupational health and safety standards is required.
