Horizontal Directional Driller/equipment Operator

Solo Cable is currently seeking a Horizontal Directional Driller to join our operations in **Brantford **for a **permanent, full-time** position.
- Local Work - based out of Brantford
- Work may extend to 200 kilometers

**Essential Qualifications**:
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, evenings
- Able to do physically demanding work i.e., digging and carrying of heavy equipment
- Able to work in varied weather conditions
- Must be willing to cross-train and develop skill set
- Must be safety conscious
- Advanced math skills
- Excellent collaboration/communication skills; able to communicate and receive direction from others
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and repetitive tasks, managing time efficiently
- Mechanically inclined; able to maintain company truck, machinery or tools assigned, trouble-shoot, repair and replace as appropriate
- Geographical knowledge sufficient to read maps and follow directions
- Competent problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service skills
- Able to work efficiently with mínimal supervision; Self-motivated, disciplined, organized and a team player
- Must adhere to all company specific policies and regulations
**Responsibilities**:
- In **conjunction** with locator, operate the directional drill using the selected bore heads and back reamers to place cables and / or ducts
- Performs box locating, directional drilling, installation of conduits for various cables, installation of pedestals and concrete bases, flush mount vaults and enclosures
- Coordinates drilling activities with other activities, positioning or moving of loads and conduct in response to hand or audio signals from team members
- Understand how to lay out a bore path with plans and locates
- Complete a range of physically demanding tasks like: handling and distributing materials, loading and unloading vehicles with supplies and equipment, lift/carry tools and equipment throughout a work site, restore work sites, installing/coupling conduits and pulling cable/fibers, and hand dig trenches.
- Take part in ensuring the maintenance of vehicles and equipment daily
- Read and interpret plans, blue-prints, _as-built_ drawings and locates
**Requirements**:
- **Minimum 1 Year Previous Horizontal Drill experience**:
- **Must have valid G Ontario Driver’s Licence - AZ preferred**:
- **Criminal Background Check**:
- **Clean Driver’s Abstract/CVOR Abstract to be insurable**:
- **Must provide your own Steel Toed Safety boots and work pants**:
- **Language: fluent in English**:
- **Must be eligible to work in Canada**:
- **Experience in Telecommunication Construction an asset**:
- **Previous experience working with Telecommunication Fiber Optic and Coax installation is an asset**:
- **Experience operating heavy equipment an asset**
