BYLAW COMPLIANCE OFFICER
Temporary Employment - Parental Leave Backfill
**Responsibilities**:
Duties may include (but are not limited to):
- Adhere to the requirements and directives as outlined under the Appointment and Lac Ste. Anne County’s Authorization to Employ or Engage Development Compliance Officers/Bylaw Compliance Officers, as granted.
- Educatingproperty owners and other citizens about responsible development in the County. Provide information about regulations and options for compliance.
- Adhere to the requirements and directives as outlined by the department, authorizations and Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Investigate Lac Ste. Anne County’s Municipal Bylaw complaints and disputes, and ensures appropriate resolutions by fine, order or education.
- Sound knowledge related to detailed evidence collection, documentation and reporting collects, maintaining, and processing exhibits according to Provincial Court Regulations, prepare court briefs and disclosure documents, and gives evidence in court.
- Ensures proper issuance of violation tickets/tags, orders, summons, subpoenas, and any other documentation under authority granted through the Appointment and Authorization to Employ or Engage and/or in accordance with Lac Ste. Anne County bylaws.
- Complete in a timely manner all reporting tasks required of the position.
- Maintain good communication and public relations with ratepayers, fellow staff members, County Council and all other related third parties.
- Other assigned duties as assigned by the County Manager or Director of Growth and Compliance as required to meet the obligations of this position.
- Carries out safe work practices and adheres to safety and other work-related regulations; reports unsafe and/or insecure situations that may arise from time to time.
- Ensure that charges are properly issued, and subsequent court documents are properly prepared.
- Ensure that files are properly maintained.
- Check and maintain assigned vehicle as per policy.
- Other Duties as required.
**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Criminal Justice, Law and Governance or Law Enforcement related field is an asset.
- An equivalent of two (2) years previous experience in a combination of animal control or handling, enforcement, government service or similar public or private sector work is an asset.
- Must possess current and thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and be familiar with enforcement procedures.
- Always possess a valid Alberta Driver’s License during employment with Lac Ste. Anne County.
- Provide an insurable Driver’s Abstract in accordance with County policy.
- Must provide acceptable clear criminal records check upon employment.
- Eligibility for membership in the Alberta Development Officers Association would be an asset.
- Eligibility for membership in the Alberta Association of Community Peace Officers would be an asset.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, MOVES and familiarity of reporting software such as Report Exec.
- High level of interpersonal skills, diplomacy and professionalism.
- Strong oral and written communication and customer service skills and experience with public speaking.
- Well developed conflict resolution and investigative skills to resolve confrontational situations by dealing with these tactfully, clearly, and effectively.
- Demonstrated planning, problem solving and decision making, with the ability to work under own initiative, while taking due care and responsibility to make sound decisions sometimes under stressful conditions.
- Proven abilities to liaise with internal and external government/municipal departments, police, or other community services, clients, and staff members to achieve positive results.
- Attention to detail, solid problem-solving and advanced analytical skills are required, as well as effective organizational and time management skills.
- Strong initiative and leadership qualities are required, as is an ability to work independently and as a team member.
**Job Type**: Fixed term contract
Pay: $62,411.00-$73,759.00 per year
Flexible Language Requirement:
- French not required
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
