**Machine Operator - Specialty Folder Gluer Operator**

**Career Opportunity**
This position reports directly to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for all activities associated with running the Specialty Folder Gluer Machine including but not limited to set-up, operation, pre-run, during and post-run quality check-up, cleanup, preparation of work order for maintenance and continuous improvement. Safety, quality and efficiency are of top concern.
**Specialty Folder Gluer Machine Operator**
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Work in a safe manner at all times by following all company safety procedures and rules.
- Wear complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before, during and while inside the production area. Ensure that all J&L crew members are wearing complete PPE’s, advise to wear accordingly before operating the machine.
- Keep a safe distance away from the tow motor when corrugated sheets are being brought to the machine.
- Review work orders to determine job specifications and initial the “Special Instructions” on the Factory Ticket to indicate review and understanding.
- Review bundle counts and stacking patterns.
- Ensure 2nd person reviews, understands and initials the “Special Instructions” on the Factory Tickets.
- Direct and assign activities (including the assisting of set up) of crew members -2nd person and 3rd person/people-Take-off (if personnel required) and ensure that safety procedures are adhered to.
- Inputs order information into the Amtech computer in the plant data collection section.
- Ensure the safety light curtain is clear before operation.
- Ensure machine is in proper mode (Run, Setup, Down)
- Ensure the back fold system is in the “Off” position prior to set up.
- Save new orders and load existing orders.
- Conduct or assist in machine setup by properly setting up the “Operator’s Side” of the 1000 Module-Feeder, 2000 Module-First Back Fold (if applicable), 3000 Module-Second Back Fold (if applicable), 4000 Module-Final Fold, 5000 Module-Delivery and 6000 Module-Compression Module and fine tune if required.
- Enter the glue settings and fine tune if previously set by 2nd man or loaded from a previous order and activate the proper glue guns and ink spray.
- 1. Setup the take off section back end and perform feeding duties when required.
- Maintain line of communication to the rest of the crew when ready to start belts, setup and run.
- Verify the correctness of initial set up.
- Perform quality inspections, checking for proper alignment and glue placement as bundles are created.
- Monitor regular runs for quality and consistency, visually and through conducting regular quality checks according to our procedures for in-process inspection.
- Periodically perform visual inspections up and down the machine while running and make any necessary changes as needed.
- Determine optimal settings and increase the speed and run production.
- Fill out applicable data at the conclusion of the order.
- Perform a post-use inspection at the end of every shift by: inspection of any loose or worn parts, clean glue heads and guns and ensure they are capped, clean any excess glue off the machine, clean work area and perform a proper shut down of the machine (last shift) in accordance with proper shutdown techniques/standards.
- Cut plastic straps on corrugated sheets using proper tools/equipment, stand back and hold strap in position when cutting it to avoid being hit by the strap under pressure.
- Monitor box quality, including but not limited to box liner, warp, correct size and print.
- Inspect machine regularly and inform Supervisor/Maintenance of any and all issues.
- Lockout machine before entering. Remove and keep own key.
- Unlock lockout and ensure that all padlocks are removed by its owner before operating the machine.
- Adheres to production schedule. Reports any unusual scheduling issues to Supervisor.
- Operate the machine, manage speed to optimize production and maximize the utilization of equipment. Operate the machine at available capacity and ensure gluing and folding is correct.
- Monitor regular runs for quality and consistency, visually and through conducting regular quality checks according to our procedures for in-process inspection.
- Troubleshoots when operating issue on machine occur. Turn in maintenance work orders for needed repairs.
