**Science Laboratory Technician**

As a Science Lab Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting science teachers and students in the laboratory setting. Reporting to the **Head of Upper School**, the Science Laboratory Technician works closely with science teaching staff to ensure the science curriculum can be delivered efficiently and safely throughout the year. In consultation with teaching staff, the Science Laboratory Technician will ensure that facilities are maintained and that all preparation for class work is completed in a timely manner.

**Responsibilities**:

- The preparation of materials and equipment for science lessons.
- Set up laboratory equipment and materials for science experiments based on teacher instructions.
- Ensure all necessary supplies are readily available for student use during lab sessions.
- Maintaining science laboratories and preparation rooms, the equipment, and services

in good order
- General duties in support of the teachers in the Science Department
- Performing pre-analytical procedures to ensure the experiments run smoothly.
- Sorting, allocating, and delivering specimens, materials, and equipment to workstations in all the science labs loading onto laboratory instruments, as required
- Receiving, unpacking, and sorting incoming specimens, solutions, or equipment
- Monitor inventory levels of lab supplies and chemicals, and order replenishments as necessary.
- Keep detailed records of materials used and maintain an organized storage system for lab resources.
- Maintaining good record-keeping practices while adhering to quality and safety programs
- Maintaining accuracy and calibration of laboratory testing equipment
- Performing routine inspections on laboratory equipment to determine when maintenance is required
- Troubleshoot technical issues with lab apparatus and coordinate repairs when needed.
- Provide guidance and support to students during laboratory activities to ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Enforce safety protocols and procedures within the laboratory to prevent accidents and ensure a secure environment.
- Assist teachers in demonstrating experiments and training students on the proper handling of chemicals and equipment.
- Using relevant computer software programs to collect or input data and information
- Safely collect, sort, store and pack chemical and biological waste and coordinate the safe disposal through a qualified and certified company.
- Water plants and feed snakes in the science labs
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years experience in a similar role.
- Share the vision of the Science Department, School and the Head

- Be a team player contributing to the work of the Science Department and the School
- Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures related to handling chemicals and laboratory equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with teachers, students, and staff effectively.
- This position may involve standing for extended periods in a laboratory environment.
- Some tasks may require lifting and carrying equipment or supplies.
- Abe to work unsupervised and anticipate the science activities included in the current Science Ontario curriculum
