Project Manager

Nova Construction Co. Ltd. (Nova) is a driving force in the Nova Scotia Road building industry. Over the years, Nova has built, upgraded and/or paved more than 500 miles of highway in Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia for the provincial and federal governments. Well known for our expertise in “earth moving”, Nova produces aggregates, pavements (highways, roads, parking lots and driveways), builds bridges and marine infrastructure and operates open pit mines for coal and gypsum.

We are recruiting for a Heavy Civil Construction Project Manager based in Antigonish, NS to oversee large-scale construction projects, such as highways, bridges, and mining, from inception to completion. This role involves planning, coordinating, and managing all aspects of the project, including budgets, schedules, safety, and quality control, while ensuring compliance with regulations and client requirements.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Project Planning and Management**:
Developing project plans, schedules, and budgets, defining project scope and deliverables, and ensuring alignment with client requirements.
- **Resource Management**:
Overseeing the allocation of resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to ensure efficient project execution.
- **Budget and Cost Control**:
Managing project budgets, tracking expenses, and implementing cost control measures to ensure projects stay within financial constraints.
- **Schedule Management**:
Developing and managing project schedules, monitoring progress, and implementing corrective actions to maintain timelines.
- **Safety and Quality Control**:
Ensuring compliance with safety regulations, implementing quality control procedures, and maintaining a safe working environment.
- **Contract and Subcontractor Management**:
Overseeing contract administration, managing subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with contract specifications.
- **Stakeholder Communication**:
Maintaining effective communication with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to provide project updates and address concerns.
- **Risk Management**:
Identifying potential risks, developing mitigation strategies, and managing risk throughout the project lifecycle.
- **Project Closeout**:
Ensuring proper documentation, final inspections, and project closeout procedures are completed.
- **Leadership and Mentorship**:
Providing leadership and mentorship to project team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

**Skills and Qualifications**:

- **Experience**:
Significant experience in heavy civil construction project management, including a proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects.
- **Technical Knowledge**:
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and equipment used in heavy civil projects.
- **Management Skills**:
Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
- **Communication Skills**:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
- **Problem-Solving Skills**:
Ability to identify and resolve complex problems that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- **Leadership Skills**:
Ability to lead and motivate project teams, foster collaboration, and build strong working relationships.
- **Regulatory Knowledge**:
Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and building codes.
- **Education**:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field is required.
